I don't think it's fair, but when will Kaleta start getting the Tim Connolly treatment? The "glass man" bs started after he suffered a significant head/neck injury, returned, but kept getting hurt one way or another (hip, rib, back).

Kaleta has been getting hurt every time he returns to the line-up, and it's not because of his aggressive style of play. He's been out lately because of getting hit, going into the net awkwardly, and blocking a shot. Last season he lost time from a punch. He hasn't lost any time, from my recollection, due to hitting somebody. It's been head injuries and various random unlucky stuff similar to what Connolly dealt with. I don't think it's fair, but I wonder when/if the cheap shots start. When a skill player goes through a rough stretch of injuries he's "soft", and when a physical player goes through the same thing it's because he's "rugged"??

Connolly is way tougher than Kaleta. The proof is in the face shield, or lack thereof.

Maybe Connolly would be wearing a faceshield if he was running into multiple guys each game.. And if he was tougher, wouldn't you see him pushing guys around in front of the next more than twice a year?

maybe stronger, but tougher?

He'll get the "glass man" label when he plays 80 out of 240 possible games, or whatever that ridiculous number was for Timmy. Until then, he's just been unfortunate.

Kaleta can get the 'glass man' label when it deserved.

So far it's not. He plays a very physical game, and that takes a toll on your body as a season progresses. You know the guy isn't 100% healthy, but he's still going out hard every game. He's been a little unfortunate with injuries lately, but hopefully the Olympic break is just what the doctor ordered.

Honestly, I think even insinuating this is pretty insulting to the guy.

The real question is, when does Kaleta start to hustle?

Well I already said the label isn't fair. I'm pretty much just being a smart ass by starting this thread, because I always thought the criticism toward Connolly was unfair. But to be serious and play devil's advocate, as part of my original post stated, Kaleta's injuries have not been from plowing over anybody or going hard into the boards on a hit attempt. He's been injured from run of the mill stuff that any other skill player has suffered from, including head injuries that were not nearly as severe as Connolly's. So my serious question is - why do gritty players get a pass from the "injury prone" label when they miss games from the same type of injuries that skill players suffer? I don't advocate calling Kaleta "injury prone" because I think fans use that term without much thought or experience with sports related injuries.

Well, he does have his own injury thread(or at least he's the only one ever on it). I think we are just taking the lack of injuries for granted. If others were hurt more often, then it wouldn't make Kaleta's injuries as noticeable.

Different time frames. Connolly came into the league 1999. Played his junior years in the OHL in the late 90's. Were mandatory visors even in the OHL then? Now that visors are mandatory in all junior levels we've seen an increase in players wearing them cause they are already used to them.

CV loves to pull the Visor comments out whenever he gets the chance to.

I remember reading the front page of the sports section in the Buffalo News that read "Connolly missed 200 of last 300 games"

I don't believe he missed many more games after that article was written though..
