Maybe this crapshoot of coaches can get something done?

Report: Jauron hired
Chris Brown
Posted February 2nd, 2010
Tags: Dick Jauron
Former Bills head coach Dick Jauron has found work elsewhere in the NFL.

According to NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora, Jauron has been hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as their secondary coach.

Jauron worked with Eagles coach Andy Reid in Green Bay on Mike Holmgren’s staff (1992-94) and becomes the latest member of Buffalo’s former coaching staff to catch on with another team this offseason.

Jauron replaces Brian Stewart, who left the Eagles to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Houston.

apparently another team is dumber than us.

He'll somehow get to the Super Bowl just like most of the previous QB's and coaches...

From ESPN.go.com. Was excited until I read the now enlarged red lettering, but now I'm just optimistic.

The Buffalo Bills chose to operate without a football-minded general manager until a little more than a month ago.

Now they're trying to give their new football-oriented GM a football-oriented assistant GM.

In his blog on NFL.com, Jason La Confora writes the Bills have asked Pittsburgh Steelers pro scouting coordinator Doug Whaley to be the assistant general manager to Buddy Nix.

Whaley presumably would fill the void created when the Bills fired vice president of pro personal John Guy two weeks ago.

Whaley has been with the Steelers for 13 seasons, the past 10 as pro scouting coordinator.

A bit of trivia for Bills fans: The previous men who held the pro scouting coordinator for the Steelers before Whaley?

Tom Donahoe and Tom Modrak.

The Bills hired Donahoe as general manager after the 2000 season and fired him in January 2006. The experience soured Bills owner Ralph Wilson so much that he didn't hire another general manager until Nix.

Modrak is the Bills vice president of college scouting, but has been the target of fan disdain for drafts that have produced zero playoff teams for 10 years running.

Trestman will have some success in the NFL as a coach at some point.

Why does that bother you that Whaley just happened to work for the Steelers after Donahoe and Modrak did? Whaley has two rings, so obviously he's been successful.

Bills name Edwards defensive coordinator
Chris Brown, Lead Journalist
Posted 3 hours ago
AA
One of the most important positions left on Chan Gailey’s coaching staff has been filled. George Edwards, a 12-year NFL coaching veteran, was named Bills defensive coordinator Thursday. Edwards has been a defensive coordinator (2003) and assistant defensive coordinator (2002) in his time in the league.

“We are very excited that George Edwards has joined our staff as defensive coordinator,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “He brings a wealth of experience, not only as a motivator and communicator, but he has been involved with some great schemes and we are excited about him being the head of our defense.”

Buffalo’s new defensive boss will be making changes to the Bills defensive scheme, which has exclusively employed a 4-3 front the past nine seasons.

“Defensively, we will start from a 3-4 alignment,” said Edwards. “But we will do what we feel is best for our players. We are not going to give anything away about exactly what we will do, but personnel will dictate what you can and what you can’t do. As far as the initial alignment, the 3-4 is what we will start off with and we will adjust from there.”

Edwards has experience with the 3-4 system after spending the last five seasons as a linebackers coach with the Miami Dolphins, where he was instrumental in the development of linebacker Channing Crowder. In 2009, the Miami defense ranked fourth in the NFL in third-down defense, holding opponents to a 34.8 percent success rate. The Dolphins also paced the NFL by recording a sack every 7.4 opponent pass plays.

Following the 2009 season, Edwards was named the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida on Jan. 8 of this year, before being offered and accepting the Bills coaching position.

In 2003, Edwards was named the defensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins after serving as the assistant defensive coordinator/ linebackers coach the previous year under then head coach Steve Spurrier. Edwards coached the likes of Bills Hall of Famer Bruce Smith. Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington was selected for two of his three Pro Bowls under the tutelage of Edwards (2002-03) including a career year in which he had 107 tackles and 11 sacks.

In 2002, each of the Redskins’ starting linebackers, which also included Jesse Armstead and Jeremiah Trotter, surpassed the 100-tackle plateau.

Edwards began his NFL coaching career with a four-season stint with the Dallas Cowboys (1998-2001), the first two of which came under head coach Chan Gailey. He tutored the team’s linebackers where Dexter Coakley was twice selected to the Pro Bowl in Edwards’ time with the Cowboys.

“I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to come in and have a chance to work with coach Gailey again and the staff that he has been able to put together,” Edwards said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to come to Buffalo and look forward to getting started as quickly as possible. This is a team that has played good defense in the past and I am excited to continue on with that tradition.”

Prior to his time in the pro ranks, Edwards spent seven years coaching at the college level, with stints at Georgia (1997- defensive line), Duke (1996- linebackers), Appalachian State (1992-95- linebackers) and Florida (1991- graduate assistant). Edwards coached current Bills DT Marcus Stroud at Georgia in 1997.

I saw a quote on the Bills website that Stroud has alot of respect for Edwards hard-nosed coaching.

No, not that.

This... Is Russ Brandon now completely out of football operations, and now EXCLUSIVELY in marketing?

thanx.

the one thing i wonder is they are looking at a 3-4 defense. how do you run that when you have no other inside LB. and no nose tackle.

I mean you could potentially signs peppers as an DE, and kelsey or schobel on the other side. Then either draft a guy like brandon spikes 2nd round or go after Joey Porter ( i lean toward the draft as a trade with the dolphins for porter will be expensive), and have maybin and poz play the outsides (their speed should help with cover schematics and i think they'd be better off on the outside) and spikes and mitchell in the middle. As for the Nose. Wilfork is unlike to be resigned by the patriots (I'd throw my hat in the ring for him, the guy can plug a hole) plus their is stroud as well. or your looking at say terrence Cody in the Draft. thats some of my idea. the whole workings of it are figured out on file somewhere. i'll post a before and after the combine, my draft board ideas, and more bills ideas.

on thing i just thought of was wilson brought in a coach who is known for dealing with what he's got. So basically ralph has said indirectly he will not spend money on big market free agents like wilfork, or peppers. typical ralph. I wonder if the Goo goo dolls would consider buying the bills or sabres. i mean fergie, j-lo, marc anthony, the estefans all own the dolphins. and they brought in parcells, who in turn brought sperano (probably botched the name).

Do you think a bank would let me take out a loan of a 1 Billion to buy the Bills?

i'm in. they may let a lot of people take out money, but eventually you'd have to pay them back and they might want you to give them naming rights. plus the first few years you'd be like wilson trying to make money to pay back your loan. thus the team wouldn't be good till you could pay them back.

It's a business proposal, it could work.

Next time I go to the bank I'm going to ask them, Can I get a 1 billion dollar loan to buy the Buffalo Bills and save their fans from disappointment?

I know M&T is affiliated with the Bills. and you might have to go to different banks to take out that much money. i don't know if one bank can legally give you a loan that large.

i think so that is what they said when they made the change to Nix, but as we all know the words of the bills are cheap.
