I disagree. Winning the division is important because it guarentees your team is in the top 3 of the Conference. I'd say that's essential considering we all know how tight the playoff race is towards the end of the season when teams are scrambling for every single point possible to secure a playoff position. Winning the division is a very attainable goal and it secures your team a spot in the playoffs and you get home ice advantage.

currently where we are in the standings the guys aforementioned in a previous topic and that Joey Hishon interest me. Hishon might be a bit small for what we might be trying to turn the team into. but i mentioned that martindale, and there is a kid who defected from russia, Ivan Telegin. those would be on my board in our current position. if we tank fowler, seguin, or hall.

I was totally joking, this year's draft has nobody in the first round that fits the Sabres mold, nobody with size, physicality, and all around toughness. I'm perfectly content with us trading our 1st pick for someone like Ponakarovski, but what I was saying is that. We're about a month away from the trade deadline, and people are freaking out because we aren't making desperation moves like the Rangers, Habs, Flames, Thrashers, and even the Devils.

It's not that big of a deal. We're still winning, albeit not as much as we'd all like, but we're still leading the division, and are 3rd in our conference.

I agree with you but if they can sign him and he lives up to what he's done in the past then it's a great deal. I wouldn't make a trade like that if you knew you couldn't sign the guy.

The Devils may not even be able to sign him, They've got 41M out of 57M tied up going into next year, if the cap drops to 52M like some are predicting their ass is in a sling, because they need to sign atleast 5 roster players, including Paul Martin who is a UFA making 4.5M right now, and will command at least that on the open market, even with injuries this season. So you're looking at signing Paul Martin for roughly 5M brining them to 46 out of 57M, and signing 4 more roster players. If Kovie truly wants the Ovechkin deal, NJ would be signing 3 remaining players at league minimum, and sacrificing nearly an entire line of forwards to sign one guy.

Never been a proponent of putting all your available space into one free agent.

It's too early in the season to make a statement like that. Plus this current roster isn't going to the Cup anyways without some tinkering! And It's easy to see after the last month.
So what I'm not a fan of Darcy. He's done nothing in the last few years to help this team. Let see he's lost 3 key players that he could have signed for far less money than the market gave them. He waits on Vanek's contract and then he's stuck signing him for way more money than he should be making. What else then he chooses not to re-sign Dumont over Max. God the list goes on and on. Some people like Darcy and some don't. I think he's too conservative and not willing to take any chances. Last year he trades away a 2nd rounder for Moore when I think he should have just kept the pick with no intention of re-signing Moore. Last year's team wasn't going anywhere anyways and even if they would have made the playoffs they would have been bounced in the first round.

anyway Regier will say there are no trades avaiable and so wel'll other teams getting better and us standing pat again. After all I'm used to it and don't expect much from Regier anymore.

Last games showed perfectly why this team is NOT a contender, we suck without a stellar Miller its that simple.
