You wouldn't need to sand away the paint to repaint it, I don't see why you would really need to?

Maybe sand off the clear coat but that would be all you would probably do, but in the NHL, there is no need to reuse the mask again, just get a new one.

yes you do. the paint wont take to a mask unless its rough.

You can just scuff the paint that's already on there, and I know about painting and how it needs to be rough when it's a plastic type getting painted, or whatever the mask it made of.

i was going to paint my mask a few years ago, so i researched it. you have to rough up the mask with a weak grade sand paper. it takes a long time to sand it right.

regardless, the original question was if millers olympic mask was his jap mask. and the answer is no.

Alright then, I mean I'm no goalie, but I believe you Irony.

Missy just brought up an excellent theory - could this be his failed Japanese tattoo mask repainted? After all, it'd be already custom-fit to his face. I think she's got a point.

no. its more trouble then its worth. bishop would have to sand it down and remove the padding and buttons, taping over other things.... that alone is a day or two of work.. its not just simple sanding, it has to be a weak grade so it takes FOREVER. and im sure warwick helps out miller any way he can. my guess is miller doesnt do a new mold every year.

remember a few years ago, miller had a winter classic mask made for one game, and an all-star game mask made. he wouldnt skimp on the olympic mask.

also, most mask artists wont repaint a mask they previously painted.

but check out these barf pads. same CCM vector 10 pad base, new graphics by RBK.

i dunno if this has anything to do with it, but i was just watching the nbc game (caps vs pens) and the had a snippet of miller training for team USA, and he was wearing the Japanese mask, looked like old footage, maybe it was repainted, or maybe it was recent footage and he was just wearing it instead of his new mask

here is food for thought. the sabres foot the bill for the masks AND paint jobs. the teams allow them to use their masks and equipment in the games, but would the sabres pay for the same mask to be painted twice? my honest to goodness dont think so. and, like i said, they wont re-use and re-paint a mask, many times. not for pro, anyways. that olympic mask is new.

hasek had new masks remade, and making his masks was a BITCH, apparently.

I'm always amused how goalie masks bring out the fashionistas in hockey fans. :)

oh, you have no idea. yesterday, i got pictures of gigueres new pads, still in the RBK offices. i was so excited to see them, even though they are white with blue accents, and you knew EXACTLY what the pad would look like the second he was traded.

i want to work for vaughn goalie pads. their headquarters and main plant are 10 miles south of here. (actually from the town gerbe grew up in)

oh, i know! i just chomp at the bit to talk goalie equipment.

last night i was at the bar that is attached to our arena. a kid walked by with RBK pads, and i go, RBK pads suck! joking around. he got upset, so i talked to him. and he left, so i thought. i went out to the parking lot with my friend, ralphing, and the same kid approached me, and said, so why do my pads suck? and i said, i was kidding, i cant afford revokes, and i wear fucking eagle pads, i was just kidding. he wanted to fight me over it though. guess that made me a douche for a minute though.

Oh Irony. That's a great story.

Miller's Japanese mask is no longer, he took a slapshot to the chin and it broke:

Bishop has been in close touch with inGoal Magazine since he allowed us to publish the first photos of a new Japanese-themed mask Miller wore last season – so many people love Miller’s traditional Sabres mask but I loved the new and more personal look he tried – unfortunately we won’t be seeing it again for a while because Ryan took a slap shot that broke the Chin off.
