Since when does Buffalo have rational fans?

We do have rational fans, but they often get smothered by the douche bags who hate anything that doesn't fit their radical position.

I guess I would agree with that position. Most people who are sort of in the middle regarding either Buffalo team in terms of support seem to get pushed away by the people with the more...loud opinions, I suppose. And if they don't, they end up having to defend their opinions in such a way that they end up looking like an asshole in the process.

What a loop.

This is just Buffalo. The Bills forum is exactly the same. Ride an incredible high where everyone is happy, and then follow it with complete doom and gloom. Very rarely is there a middle ground with Buffalo fans.

This fact is made worse with the fact that a lot of us are filled with immense amounts of pride, and will defend our viewpoint to depths where rationality doesn't exist.

It's just Buffalo.

It's part of fanhood everywhere, I presume. Every team has it's unconditional lovers who will become hostile towards any criticism of their team, and the Negativos who always see the dark clouds so matter how sunny it may be. It's just reality of fanhood and forumhood, and sometimes these forces all come together and create friction, like during a losing streak, and it's then that all the nutjobs take over and get personally offended and belligerent by views that are different from their own.

It is what it is...but a few wins usually make everyone happy again. It's also a good idea to never lose your sense of humor. :D

I don't remember seeing you over at ETC's Pub before...we could use your kind around the bar. Next time you pop on over, your first pitcher's on the house!

The thing is, on this board, you're handicapped by using logic and rational thought in some threads.

I typically don't want to be the guy who has to tell people how to feel, but I'm also not shy about telling someone they are:

A. Full of Shit
B. Misinterpreting something
C. Completely wrong on their basis

I mean, there are plenty of people I disagree with in a logical manner, but then there are people who just irrationally attack the wrong people in the organization everyday. They also drive away the members on the board that want to discuss hockey in a rational and logical manor. I couldn't imagine being a mod on this board, it's got to feel like babysitting half the time.

You know, I have no problem with people taking what I believe to be a wrong position, or thinking differently, or making a case that I find idiotic, but I do get pissed when the infants can't respond without making personal attacks at others for not agreeing with them. Unfortunately, it's the reality of forum life.

As long as people are polite and civil they can give any take they want and it won't offend me in the slightest. Get personal or nasty, I bite back.

Well people will react more strongly to what has happened most recently rather than taking a body of work as a whole. Which is understandable, it's fresh in their memory and it stings the worst. Its why people will say player X needs to be benched, or traded based on one mistake or one bad game.

I just think its funny that people are just starting to complain about numerous things that we knew going in to the season. Montador is no saving grace on defense, Stafford and MacArthur don't show up every game, Roy's lack of size hurts him far too often, and Patrick Lalime looks like he can't handle an NHL backup job two out of every three games.

I think those are legitimate gripes to have, and have been their all year, they've just become more apparent now.

But when people seem to think that good teams never slump when Pittsburgh has losing streaks of 4 and 5 games this season, Washington has three separate three game losing streaks and one four game losing streak, and new jersey has a pretty poor record in their last ten, I think that's a little ridiculous.

Likewise, I don't think the lack of fighting majors tells any sort of story or causes any concern, especially when two of the teams on the bottom with us are Washington and Detroit.

So far, I don't think I've done anything to piss anyone off to the point of making any enemies on here. Hope that trend continues. Sometimes I can be one of the biggest Sabres homers and see EVERYTHING through blue and gold lenses and can let the emotions get away. As for anyone taking any shots at me, well, it's a message board. I like to go back to a pic I posted on the official board once. The caption states:

"Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded."

*NOTE* I hold nothing against the handicap and am not taking any shots at the less fortunate.

I'll agree though, most bickering on here is a result of people getting pissed when others don't see it their way or side with them. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one, but we always manage to agree on one thing. We want this god damn team to win!

I wish I had a beer right now. They tend to look down on drinking on the job though. :(

My favorite image of all time, 'Zilla. Everytime I see it it puts all this shit in perspective. Mrs. ETC especially loves it, since she frequently shakes her head at how I waste time and energy on the "internets".

I didn't want to watch the video in your sig, because I thought it was going to make fun of Drew for doing a poor job in that fight, since I hadn't seen the game.

But he did surprisingly well. Nice to see some emotion.

I think he must have felt me ripping him, because just as I was announcing how done I was with him for being a gutless, pointless, worthless waste of space he responded the next night against Carolina by scoring a goal, and the next by getting in a fight - and man, I bet Umberger is still hurting over a couple of those shots Staff pounded him with.

ETC is quick to forgive. Love that side of Stafford we've seen the past two games, and hope it lasts.

I think I make people think I'm a negative basher when the team is winning because I'm a flatliner. Then when the team is losing I make people think I'm blindly positive because I'm a flatliner.

Winning or losing streaks don't change my opinion. It's a matter of what the roster looks like and how they execute the game plan. Right now I think they're mentally tired and need practice time. If they can make the most of their Olympic break (even the players that will still be playing, just by getting away), I think they can return to form. I still don't think their potential brings them up to the level of a Cup favorite this season. I think a non-rental trade or two with the future in mind, and a solid FA signing or two this summer will bring them to that level.

The biggest thing people ignore when talking trades, FA signings, and bashing Darcy is that it takes other GMs to agree to a trade and players to actually want to play in Buffalo. This stuff isn't up to Darcy. It's a two way street and unfortunately the other lane is usually blocked.
