So, one final sprint before the Olympics:

Buffalo - @ Carolina Thursday, hosting San Jose Saturday
Ottawa - hosting Washington Thursday, @ Detroit Saturday, @ Islanders Sunday

I think it is quite realistic that we both pick up four points and we go into the break tied, with the Sabres having two games in hand.

That will make the mini-season after the Olympics all the more exciting. Remember, our last two games of the season are against Ottawa (Sat. April 3 - we are Ottawa's last game) and New Jersey (Sunday, April 4). Those games could very well determine where we finish between #2 - #5.

Geeez, you really think San Jose will fall on Saturday? Are there trades underway I don't know about?

At present moment? Better than this time last season. We're in a major funk right now, we go through one every season. I think this Olympic break is exactly what we need and hope the guys will use it wisely to get back on track. As fans? I think we too need this break from ranting and raving about the team and the calling for heads which I've also been guilty of doing. Maybe it'll be good for us as well.

As for the Saturday game? Well, think back to that date last season. You can bet the guys who are still here from last year’s squad remember that game pretty well. I'd imagine they'll have a little something in remembrance of the crash in Clarence. I'm expecting the fans in HSBC to be some loud as a tribute. The Sharks beat us on their ice on that recent long road trip. This time, it's up to us to return the favor.

Between now and the Sharks game, we have the ‘Canes. We’re 1-1 against them this season so far. First game, we blew them out. Second game we lost by 1. I see this game as our bounce back game to right the ship and to prep for the Sharks on Saturday. If they keep the play from last night with some tweaking here and there, we will win this game.

My thoughts exactly powerplay. This team will enter the Olympic break losing these last 2 games. Quite frankly, the wheels are coming off here in Buffalo and this break may actually help save the day. It couldn't come at a better time.
People should understand, if this organization is serious about making a run at Lord Stanley's Cup, changes are needed, and should be coming. Trades is a part of that, but also bringing in talent from Portland. I feel Mancari and Weber are ready, they can play here in Buffalo. It is time for this organization to put up or shut up, IMHO.

Absolutely. San Jose is not invincible. They come into our barn for the last game of a six game road trip. We've got something to prove and I would imagine that they probably won't take the Sabres too seriously, as well.

I expect Buffalo to win the next two games.

I expect nothing, and hope for the best.

The Sabres showed in the first half of the season they are capable of beating anyone when they play the full team game and get stellar goaltending from Miller. Still, even then we saw underlying problems of softness, sloppy play in our own end, very shaky backup goaltending, and a lack of production from our Top 6.

They may get hot again somehow and dominate the league after the break for all I know, but, unlike teams like Washington and Pittsburgh, who went through slumps of their own earlier in the season, we are not blessed with the star talent or toughness to expect it.

We have to hope for perfect "system hockey" and Miller returning to lights-out form, and even then I doubt it will be enough to be among the elite. Anyone watching the Pens/Caps game on Superbowl Sunday can see that even at our very best we aren't nearly as good as those teams are when they are clicking.

With the team coming unhinged, this is the only way to get through a game these days.... Bleh.

Well, if you listen to an expert, apparently the Sabres are going to benefit most from the Olympic break. So says Matthew Barnaby.

If you go to tsn.ca/nhl, listen to his rant for 2 minutes for instigating. He kind of sounds like Capt. obvious, but it's always good to hear from an ex Sabre. ;)

At the beginning of the year I figured we would be fortune to be contending for the #8 or #7 seed, and it looks like that just might be the case. I just didn't plan on the team getting my hopes up so high before settling into that spot.

There's still over a month to go afterward. I think they'll turn it around.

Where do they stand at Olympic Break? In the back yard with the scraggly dogs. I feel like the bottom has completely come out from under them.

However, I am looking forward to the Olympics and I think the whole team WILL benefit from the break, with most of our team playing for their home countries under different coaching, with different players and hopefully will come back with the cobwebs out of their hockey shorts.

...I hope....

Actually most of our team is going to be resting during this time, our only players selected for the Olympics, are Hecht, Sekera, Lydman, Tallinder and Miller.

The rest of them, at home thinking about their season right now.

We go into the break first in the Northeast division, third in the East, and that only by two points to NJ, with a game in hand.

This losing streak will be nothing but a bump in the road as long as the team comes back with an attitude adjustment.

Yes; with the Yoemen work of so many players so far, it can only help revitalize them for the stretch.

Because the Islanders suck.
