Most of us have long been all too aware of how shot Captain Rivet's looked this season. Slow, mistake prone, shying away from the physical game, and lethargic. Now, apparently, Lindy's had enough and sent a message to him and the team last night.

http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/201 ... fense.html

    Who Rested On Defense?

Should be interesting to hear what Lindy Ruff has to say at practice today about the apparent benching of captain Craig Rivet, who continues to struggly mightily in his own zone. This is a dicey one for Ruff, whose ticket out of Buffalo as a player came when he was still the captain and was benched by coach Ted Sator.

Here's a look at the minutes played by the six defensemen in Tuesday's shootout loss to Boston

Tyler Myers 28:17 -- missed last six minutes due to injury
    Henrik Tallinder 26:58
    Toni Lydman 25:44
    Chris Butler 22:44
    Andrej Sekera 13:17
Craig Rivet 8:58 -- 4:55 coming in the first period!

I don't want Rivet riding the pine, I want him riding the bus, straight out of town!
I have had enough of him to be honest. Lydman as well. Butler I can forgive to some extent being a rookie and all, but at the end of the day I would move Lydman and Rivet and get Tallinder resigned.

Tallinder looked absolutely helpless without Myers, while Lydman is by far our most physical defenseman. Not sure what some people don't like about him, but I'm happy with his game.

I am looking at the age difference, Lydman is a little older, I also look at how Tallinder is playing with Myers, very good pairing for now. I would resign him for 2 more seasons.
Lydman however, is expendable in my book, insert Weber.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

If Weber was good enough to replace Lydman, then he's certainly better than Sekera/Butler/Patches/Montador, and he's be up here already.

I agree with Squanto.

Lydman is a very solid defenseman, and he might be our most physical one.

It is a sad state of affairs and a telling commentary on the flat-out PUSSY defensive core you ice every night when a 6 foot tall D Man from FINLAND of all places is your toughest guy playing D. What a joke....

Lydman is 2nd only to Kaleta in hits and is a +2. He's made many great defensive plays on odd man rushes, and doesn't turn over the puck in his own zone very often. How can anyone say he's not doing the job? If anyone isn't doing the job it's Rivet, Butler, and Montador.

Sorry, but that comment is bull shit.

It doesn't matter that he's from Finland. He throws big hits, he's sound positionally, he's got good speed, and he wins most of his battles in the corner.

You fucking fail.

I agree. I have no problems with Nordic Thunder overall this season.

First of all....fail? Really? What are you thirteen?

Second, I never questioned Lydman throwing hits, his speed, OR his positional play, which is in my opinion, probably tops on the team. My point was, when a player who has been universally known throughout his ENTIRE career NOT to be physical is your best physical D man.....you need to fix that. Thanks for playing.

Temperature getting a bit high... I'm no angel, of course, but just pointing out that it's getting a way too personal and hostile with the attacks.

Yeah. I sense the hostility, lol. It's ok by me though. I just love how I state an opinion and immediately I am a failure for not agreeing, haha. Spirited debate says what?

I disagree with your opinion that Loods has not been known for physical play. He has for many years been a very physical d-man. I also agree that it's a shame we don't have more toughness at the position. However, PSP was definitely over the top with the "you fucking fail" business. Uncalled for, and I'm sure he realizes it. He gets excited like all of us and says shit he later would like to take back.

Lydman has always been known as a physical player.

There's a time for 'fucking fail'.

I don't think this was one of them. :)

When he bashed Lydman for being from Finland, my troll alarm went off.

His successive post made me lower my guard. :?

Eh, Im unaffected. Although I only have 55 posts here and probably seen as the "new guy", Im a Sabres board regular at other places and understand that he probably didn't mean anything personal by it. Just probably getting worked up because like all of us he's angry about the team's play as of late. The point I was trying to make wasn't that Lydman was a pussy, a terrible hockey player, or that he is not a good D man. It was simply that when a guy like that is your most physical D man, your back end has SERIOUS problems (no pun intended, really)
