Robitaille in stable condition after surgery
BUFFALO -- Buffalo Sabres broadcaster Mike Robitaille underwent surgery today after suffering a spinal cord injury last week, Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital announced this afternoon.
Robitaille was injured last Wednesday when the car he was driving was rear-ended.
He is listed in serious but stable condition and is recovering in the hospital's intensive care unit, hospital officials said.
The surgery decompressed Robitaille's spinal cord and stablized his spine.
Robitaille suffered neurological deficits involving his arms and legs, but is able to walk and move about, Dr. Kevin J. Gibbons said in a written statement released this afternoon. Testing revealed Robitaille had a compressed spinal cord in his lower neck and a cervical spine deformity, which required surgery, according to Gibbons.
Gibbons, of University at Buffalo Neurosurgery, performed the surgery.
Robitaille expects to return to his broadcast duties with the Sabres after the Olympic break, officials said.

This sounds quite a bit like my finacée's spinal condition. She got rear-ended, and as a result a disc in her back herniated and compressed her spinal cord. She needed two surgeries to decompress it. But it worked. That said, she's still recovering and dealing with pain over a year later.
Good luck and get well soon Roby.
