WARNING: CV this is not directed at your personally.

i hate it when people talk about giving Kaleta a bloody letter. out side of getting some nice hits and drawing a few penalties, he is more or less worthless. giving him a letter would have been like giving Rob Ray a letter. What has he done to deserve being given a letter?

WARNING OVER:

the letters should have to be earned with either amazing play on the ice or what the player does off it. those letters should be the highest level of honor on the team that a player can achieve. the problem with the sabres is that the C's and A's have be come devalued with the constant changing, rotating, and duel captain bullshit that Ruff has employed for no real reason as of yet. This team needs a true captain. one that will set the rules of the team on and off the ice. a couple good examples"

theres a story St.Louis told about Tampa Bay that when Dave Andreychuk came to the team he was asking around like "so what are the rules here?" "how does this work?" etc. he was told that there are no special rules or anything like that. when he became captain his first thing was "no one walks on the Logo in the dressing room. if you do you get fined." St. Louis then said that since that day, hes never walked on the Logo.

another story was about Montreal. After a rough game the team game into the dressing room and were all pissed. one guy who had an exceptionally bad game ripped of his jersey and threw it to the ground. the room went quiet as Jean Beliveau got up and walked over to the jersey. he picked up the jersey, folded it and handed back to the players saying "this is a Canadians sweater, treat it with respect."

right now, i dont see the sabres having anyone on this team that is fit to lead this team on or off the ice. Myers has the ability to inspire the team on the ice but lacks the wisdom required to do anything off the ice. Rivet is the opposite. What he has learned during his time in the NHL is far superior to nearly all the team, yet his declining skills prevent him from making any sort of impact in the game.

i dont know who should be captain on this team.

I don't remember the game, it was early in the season and Miller was pulled. He was furious and threw his mask/helmet when he came to the sidelines. After that, I saw a difference in the team's attitude on the ice.

Something else I have been pondering is: Could there be dissention in the locker room we don't know about??

While Rivet's play has been sub-par, nobody knows what he does in the locker room and off the ice.

I think it's unreasonable to make assumptions about that.

I would take him back for no more than half what hes making for the next 4 years. That contract is a HUGE burden for that team and his play is nowhere near the level he is being paid. With that said I loved him when he was here tho.

I'd eat the other half of that contract, just for the OBVIOUS leadership. Rivet just isn't getting the job done. Being captain is a lot of work, but does it say that you *have* to have a captain anywhere? I think a bold move by Lindy would be to not name one.

Right now though, and it's been shouted from the rooftops for the past two years, if anyone should be wearing a C,it should be Gaustad.

Lindy has tried the 'no captain' thing before. In my opinion it was a miserable failure.

I typed something long and quoted someone. For some reason my text didn't show up but the quotes did.
Here is it summed up:

Miller should not be captain. He's proved he plays the best when he is not worrying about the mental issues of the team.

When? With what group of players? (I'm not saying you're wrong, just asking because I don't know).

No captain was named during Peca's holdout year in 2000-01. (The year Hasek let in the cupcake from Kasparaitis.)

Barnes was named captain from 01-02 until he was traded in 03.

Ruff then went to the rotating captain garbage in 03-04, where Miro Fucking Satan got to wear a C. Yuck.

We then had the co-captaincy stuff with Briere and Drury, and a year with the magical rotating letters again before Rivet got it in 2008. Rivet is the first full time captain of this team since Barnes.

yes, that would be why i said that while Rivets skill are sub-par, his wisdom is greater then anyone else on the team...

NONE OF US know what really goes on in that locker room and how all those persoanlities interract. Fact is, the PLAYERS should elect a captain...and that guy gets the "C". It's not quite the same when the coach designates a captain---it's almost like your parent telling you your brother is the boss for today. BS! The rotating "C" was so pathetically simplisitc it made my stomach turn.

Also, the "angry Miller throws his shit" game was the 12/29 game against Pitt where Miller was pulled after 3-0 hole. The team responded with 4 in-a-row.

The players did elect Rivet as captain.

He doesn't. They asked him about it when Luongo was named captain and he said he had no interest.

Goaltending requires insane amounts of focus.

He can't be worrying about other players or bad calls at that position.
