I have been saying this since they signed him that's he's a 6th or 7th defenseman. Sorry but Darcy doesn't want to go after any high profile players during free agency and he thinks he has great value in Montador. To me it seem liked Montador has been getting worse every since he wanted to pinch and join the rush. He needs to be a stay at home defenseman and leave joining the play to Myers, Tallinder and Sekera.

The bad; Buffalo signs a career journeyman defenseman to a reasonable contract to fill in a suspect defense.

The Good; for fourty games he plays more like a third or fourth defenseman.

The reality; He is looking more and more like a 6'th or 7'th defenseman.

He was probably our #3 defenseman from the start of the season through early January. He's been on a progressive slide since just before the west coast trip.

Then again, so has the entire team.

If Sekera slipped yesterday, I guess he wouldn't play for the entire season anymore.

Montador had been a decent D-man for a good portion of the season. Jesus he was one of the few who would actually shoot the god damn puck on the power play. I honestly don't know where this went wrong or wtf happened to him but I found he was trying to do his best Bobby Orr impression by taking the puck back behind his net (most times) for no reason to start out on the rush and it caught up with him last night. Call it a mental laps, a gaf, a hiccup, whatever. Montador has earned the Steve Smith award. Only thing is, I don't think people are as forgiving today in Buffalo as they were in Edmonton for Smith back in '86.

Monty will be taking his place in the pressbox next game.
