in the wild. yes. these animals shouldnt be confined to preserves and zoos. it should be a point to increase the number in the wild.

Sure, but they're using the word "extinct"...which they're in no danger of at all.

False advertising pisses me off.

The article did say extinct in the wild.

I'm sorry. I can't feel bad for a panda. Stupid animals can't figure out how to mate. And if tigers require 1,000 acres per male or some rediculous amount of space, then they are likely a relic of an older world. Sorry, that may be a bit harsh. I find tigers beautiful, graceful and majestic. It's a shame. But their territorial needs are a bit antiquated. Hunting them for trophies, on the other hand, is a total waste.

to the panda thing, i believe pandas are very fickle creatures and the reduction of their habitat has really hurt them, but as pat said, its also nature hurting them.

as for tigers, it may be what it is, its alot of space, but its still something worth serious conservation. and as godzilla said, if something is extinct in the wild, it is nothing more then a museum relic for the remaining specimens in captivity.

im also quiet enthralled with floridas conservation of the rare "key deer" which is an awesome animal.

In my job, water and sewer design and construction, we run into hiccups on some of our projects due to Indiana Bat habitats, and I think the Chittenango Snail, not to mention a half dozen plants that are threatened or endangered. Most of the engineers I work with find this to be pretty troublesome and annoying, especially since none of these animals are particularly cuddly, but I like that there are rules in place to protect such species.

I'm all for helping out the tigers, but going back to what Pat said about the US needing to help more because we have more money etc. I call BS.

The tigers main habitats are India and China...those countries have friggin space programs and massive economies now...it's not the 3rd world anymore. They need to step up and take some environmental and ecological responsibility.

I suppose that's what rubbed me the wrong way about the appeal from the WWF.

not what i said. i said that's easily WHY they are reaching out to us for it. i'm not saying america has any moral obligations to pay more. if you're collecting donations for a mission trip somewhere, you're not going to the crack house of the neighborhoods.

and i'm too lazy to go back and read what i wrote, so if i did say we SHOULD pay more, it was a slip. what i meant was, they SHOULD ask us.

Magnificient creatures.

If we can't find a way to share a part of the planet with something so awe inspiring, then what does that say out our species?

They are so majestic, and I would want to pet one also.

I'm sure if you were to not scare it, and it wasn't hungry, it would let you.

No. It doesn't fall on us at all. What a bleeding-fucking-heart-exemplifying-why-humans-will-cause-their-own-extinction response.

I think over-militarization is more likely to cause human extinction than attempts to minimize human impacts on world and local ecosystems.

I think "fixing" people with medical issues and then letting them reproduce is a pretty big issue.

no way man, they are VERY territorial. it wouldnt let you get close. it would let you know, hey! piss off! and if you kept going in, it will hurt you.

Think about how untrustworthy and nasty house cats can be, then imagine if they weighed 400-500 lbs.

I think tigers are magnificient, too, but the power has to be respected.
