Jerry Sullivan (who I don't like very much at all) said on the Howard Simon show that Darcy tried pretty hard to land Cullen, and that he's still working on making moves before the deadline.

Comforting news, knowing that most of us would like to see some trades made.

I would've liked to have Cullen and put Kennedy at LW, the 4th line, or the press box, but I'm not sure the 2nd rd pick would've been worth it. Sekera would be the equivalent to Picard (just based on age and contract). Sekera and a 4th rd pick would be more fair, but even then it's a fail if Cullen doesn't sign a long term deal in the summer.

I don't remember...does Buffalo even have a 2nd rd pick next draft or was it lost in the Rivet or Moore trades?

The Moore trade was a wash for Kotalik.

Buffalo gave up 2nds in 2009 and 2010, along with a 7th in 2010. Unless they have a 2nd from somewhere else, they won't have one in 2010.

Thanks, I didn't think they had a 2nd rounder, so even if Darcy wanted to make that trade he was at a disadvantage. Cullen could have been a poor man's fix (as if there are any others for Buffalo trade deadlines) for veteran scorer, 3rd center, and PP QB all in one, but if he doesn't re-sign with the team he wouldn't be worth it for just 22+ games.

We got a 2nd from Boston for Paille.

Paille was for a 3rd rd pick and a conditional.

they have a second round pick from vancouver. http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/2010mock.htm. must be something from the vancouver signing of Bernier.

No thank you to Cullen and Whitney. Good players to be sure, but I want me some Panthers fire sale material.
Inparticular Horton (I know he's injured), Weiss, Olesz and for a defensive desert can we get a Leopold, if not, lets take some Booth or Ballard please.

Ahh, so either Darcy didn't want to part with the 2nd rounder, or Carolina liked Picard better than Sekera. I think we can all agree that Darcy would've been fine with trading Sekera.

Ya, if the guy is trying, that's good enough for me. I don't want him making any foolish deals.

Don't be petty. A trade can't happen unless both GMs want it to happen.

Do you think Darcy should have offered up a better player under contract or a better pick? Like Sekera and a 1st, or Butler and a 2nd? Do you think Cullen is worth that for 22 games and playoffs?

Maybe Darcy was only going to make a move for him if a contract extension could be agreed upon. I would totally agree with that rationale. Also, I like Cullen, but if he's a difference maker for your team (if he was the only acquisition) then your team isn't in a position to make a strong Cup run that would justify giving up picks.

Quote:
Daniel Paille's time with the Sabres has come to end. General Manager Darcy Regier traded him to the Boston Bruins for a 3rd round and a conditional pick in the 2010 draft. If Paille scored 16 or more goals this season, the Bruins will have to give up one of their 4th round picks in the 2010 draft.

http://ballhype.com/story/steve_bernier ... vancouver/

Quote:
The Sabres have traded Bernier to Vancouver in exchange for Vancouver’s 2nd round pick in the 2010 NHL Draft and Los Angeles’s 3rd round pick in the 2009 NHL Draft.

So, the Sabres have Vancouver's 2nd in 2010.

7 more goals for Paille for that pick. Doesn't look too promising, unless Boston plays Buffalo 4 more times. :(
