Yes, the current system needs to be looked at for sure, so do a LOT of things. Shutting it down is the worst idea.

I didn't put my money into it to see it get pissed away. I put it in with the expectation I would get it back. I plan on voting for a politician who will be committed to guarantee me that. I don't care which party that guy is in either.

My wife's grandmother moved here from Indonesia when she was about 50.
Never paid a dime into SS and never worked a job in the US in her life.

She is currently living off of SS, Medicare and MediCal.

You're flat out fooling yourself if you think you're going to see the money you're paying into SS ever again.

The ponzi scheme goes underwater in 2014. That's a known fact.

I suggest you put all the retirement savings you can into 401k's and Roth IRA's.
Do not live you life expecting to retire on SS.
