Geesh...let's just hope it's people jumping the gun (no pun intended) and it turns out to be nothing but a precaution. :/

Channel 2 is covering the story at the moment, right now they're on the phone with a student who was in the library who was told to leave the library by another student ASAP because there was a gunman.

Well, good news. I am safe; Mel, Beth, Ariel are ok.

I would have been in Lockwood had I not skipped class to watch USA play Swiss. All in all I feel like I made the right choice.

Glad to hear you folks are safe. I've texted a few of my friends who attend UB, but I haven't heard anything back yet. I'm sure they're fine...I'm sure if there were any injuries of some sort we would have heard about it by now...

I was walking back from lab at about 4:40 and there were 5 Amherst Police cars driving down Putnam Way toward the SU. Got the text about 5 minutes later.

Apparently right now they're saying it was a security guard watching cameras that saw what appeared to be someone with a rifle over their shoulder - chances are it's a complete false alarm.

from what i hear, they havent found anyone yet, but surveillance cameras showed what looked like a guy with a rifle over his shoulder entering the building. and one of the news outlets was talking about a mom who was getting texts from her daughter inside lockwood saying that her and her friends did see a guy with a gun. but i dunno, things have calmed down a little within the past hour so hopefully it's nothing.

I dunno. I'm not too keen on UB security. a lot of the students didn't get notification that it was happening until long after. I'm really hoping they checked everywhere because Lockwood is connected by tunnel to other buildings which then connect to other buildings. I believe the only two buildings you can't get to by tunnel are Alumni Arena and the Center for the Arts. This could be one whole big false alarm, but I at least hope everything was checked out just in case, because there are some sick and crazy people out there.

Might not be a bad idea to stay holed up for a lil while just to be sure.

Where is Lockwood connected by tunnel to? It's connected by bridge to Clemens, the SU, and Baldy, but I didn't know there were tunnels too. The floor plans don't seem to show a tunnel to anywhere.

They sent a text message on the alert system at 4:40. If you're signed up for the alert system you should have gotten it.

when i say tunnel i mean the bridge things haha. but baldy and the su are also connected to other buildings as well so you can get to most of the buildings without having to go outside. that was my major point in saying that if there was a gunman, he might not have been in lockwood for long considering the connections to other buildings.

Yeah, he also could have just walked outside too if he did so before the police swarmed the building - and by the time they did so they were blocking off the connections to the other buildings as well.
