BUFFALO NEWS: John Vogl recently reported on the possibility of Sabres GM Darcy Regier making a deal at the March 3rd trade deadline, noting Regier has made moves at all 11 of his trade deadlines. Vogl wonders if he might pursue a puck-moving defenseman like Carolina's Joe Corvo, a top-six forward like Florida's Nathan Horton or Cory Stillman or a gritty player like Chicago's Ben Eager.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: Regier tends to play his cards close to the vest but given his track record at the deadline it would seem a safe bet he'll do something to bolster his roster, although given his cost-conscious mind-set he might not go after a player like Horton who's on a multi-year contract.

I would be shocked if Darcy didn't do something. He usually does. The magnitude of the move I have no idea.

I would absolutely LOVE Ben Eager to be a Sabre.

i might believe regier to be competent, that Tom is actually after a cup, and larry took the chastity belt off regier, if he brought in horton, and a guy like eager or byfuligien or sharp.

Expect nothing, and hope if it's something it's not just a band aid.

Here are the deadline deals that Regier has made since the lockout ended:

Quote:
March 09,2006 Mika Noronen to Vancouver for the Canucks' 2nd round pick in the 2006 draft.

February 27,2007 4th round pick in 2007 to Nashville Predators for Mikko Lehtonen.
February 27,2007 5th round pick in 2007 to Columbus Blue Jackets for goalie Ty Conklin.
February 27,2007 Traded Jiri Novotny and a 2007 1st round pick to the Washington Capitals for Dainius Zubrus and Timo Helbling.
February 27,2007 Martin Biron to the Philadelphia Flyers for Flyers' 2007 2nd round pick.

February 26,2008 Sabres trade Brian Campbell and 7th round pick to San Jose Sharks in exchange for Steve Bernier and a first round pick.

March 04,2009 Sabres trade 4th round pick in 2010 to the Phoenix Coyotes for Mikael Tellqvist
March 04,2009 Sabres trade Ales Kotalik to Edmonton Oilers for 2nd round pick in 2009 entry draft.
March 04,2009 Sabres trade 2nd round pick in 2009 (Kotalik deal) to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Dominic Moore

My guess is that we should expect some moves like 2007 & 2009.

I'm still hoping we some how end up with Byfuglien - I think he has a year left on his contract. I wouldn't mind Eager either - both of them do well in the post season, when the whistles get swallowed.

This is my main concern with the team, and has been for a while(probably the same as icehound too). If you think they're soft now...

We're not real good at deciding who to re-sign, and how much for(or when to re-sign). I personally could give a crap about Zubbie. I'd have liked to retain dynamic players.

I think someone already said it was the 2nd we got Moore with. Shit deal, imo.

sounds like darcy will use gerbe as a trade piece if the right deal comes along.

Something about this article leads me to believe they know nothing about hockey...

Lalime was hurt down the stretch and Enroth wasn't ready to back up Miller down the stretch last year.

And Kotalik for Moore would have been a much better deal if Moore was 100% healthy.

Why didn't we resign Tellqvist? Honestly. Guy is a solid backup, and much better at cold starts than Lalime.

Lalime was already under contract for 2009-10 and they couldn't move his contract with his injury status during the off season.

Plus, Tellqvist likely got a much better deal in the KHL.

a good backup goalie would probably solve 1/2 our problems. if we can convince our team to beat the hell out of someone once in a while we'd be even better.
