Wow, Slovakia won it in the 7th round of the shootout with Demitra winning it.

It was a great game.

The shootout was stupid though, OV shot three times. I wish Datsyuk had shot more, he is probably the best shootout guy in the world.

Wow, starting to think there is a little bit of hatred out here for my country :?

On the game last night, well it goes back to what I said pre-Olympics. I wanted Canada to win it all as long as the homers would shut their pie holes on Crosby and not start jerking themselves every time he made a simple little pass. After I seen the shoot out I simply turned off the TV and went to bed. It was one of those feel-good moments but felt dirty at the same time. Almost like finding out the person you've been married to for the last 20 years was formerly a member of the same sex as well as your cousin. Or something like that. Had anyone scored other than bitchy Crysby, well I'da been happy.

Right now, I kind of wish the game didn't happen. :|

I personally have no hatred for Canada. Love the country quite frankly.

I do take issue with the commentators that have been screaming about how if Canada doesn't win the gold medal in hockey, they will have failed. It's a terrible attitude to take.

If Team Canada gives it everything they have, and comes away with a silver, they should be damn proud of themselves, and so should their country. Suggesting anything else tends to rile me up.

The constant media fellating of Sidney doesn't help either. I like him as a hockey player, but the media overexposure make me WANT to see him fail, just so I don't have to hear about how wonderful he is for the next 6 weeks.

When does the Canadian National team play the Quebec National team?

I agree, man. It's the media having an orgy with anything and everything pertaining to Crosby that drives me retarded as well. I thought he showed some balls last night getting a high stick and staying in the game. But ok, it happens. Other players have had their nose broken one game, come out the next with no visor or bird cage on and head right back to the front of the net, only to have it happen again. Point is, you should expect to get banged up, it's hockey. Just because it's Crosby doesn't mean they can start praising him as the 2nd coming of Christ. He's not Wayne Gretzky, he'll never touch Gretzky's records and he couldn't even carry Gretzky's jock for crying out loud.

As for the mentality, I think it's ok to be motivated in thinking, "Nothing else matters but the Gold", to an extent. It’s great to have that as your goal. Hell, considering this team and the fiasco which happened back in 2006, any medal and I'm damn well happy as a Canadian! To finish in the top 3 at the Olympics when you consider the talent and skill all over the world in this game today, I'd say you've done pretty damn good for yourself!

If people in the NHL, IIHF and grassroots programs all over want to grow the game world wide, then they have to expect that other countries are going to improve in this sport. It's not just Canada’s game. Although I'd like to see our boys win the gold, I'm having a good time watching the best players in the world playing the game I love.

But I will admit I was amazed that it was his nose that was bleeding after the high stick. I was sure his lips would have offered more than enough padding to cushion the blow

If Crosby retires a Penguin, I'm putting him above Gretzky even though I generally hate him. Mike and I had a discussion on this, and I don't think "Great Ones" play for four different teams in their career.

Well, unless Crosby can pull 4 Stanley Cups, he'll never be included in the discussion.

Gretsky left Edmonton because of their cheap ass owner. That's it. Frankly, his time in LA shows how great a player he was considering how bad that franchise was when he got there.

Crosby isn't even the best player in the league, let alone good enough to challenge Gretzky's status.

Very few had the opportunity to play for one team throughout their entire career. Yzerman, Lemieux, Modano & Co. all are icons for doing so. But in all fairness, even the greatest of them all was shipped out of town to play for another team. Bobby Orr went to the Chicago Blackhawks before being forced to retire only after 10 seasons in the league. When you have a defenseman winning the Art Ross, finishing with a career +/- of 597 (+124 in a single season) and making a fool of the opposition by playing keep away with the puck, I think you can claim he's the greatest of all time, even though he didn’t play for just one team. I know we’re talking about Gretzky and Crosby, just using Bobby Orr as an example that you don’t have to play for one team to be considered the greatest. ;) However, the game was different then just as it is different now.

This drips of speculation, but I think had the Oilers had a different owner rather than Pocklington, who knows what would have gone down in Edmonton. How many cups would there have been? What records would have been set by not only Gretzky, but the whole team? I mean, that team was fully loaded!

I think the only true way we can compare Gretzky and Crosby will be when Crosby retires.

The only debate with Crosby is whether or not he's the best player on his own team.

I fell asleep after the second so I was hoping someone posted the score.
This was one of the better games I've seen and I was surprised to see how stacked Slovakia's roster was. The Russians came out with guns blazing and Slovak stood their own. It was nice to see Z and Palffy again. Good on the Slovaks.

Ovie had some crushing hits. When I saw him take Chara out, I was like  Number 8 is a literal machine. It's going to be hard to contain them.
Good to see Federov too ;)

I'm with everyone else. I, personally, feel like its my own country winning a gold medal every time Canada wins one...I love Canada so much. But Sidney really nauseates me and I just don't think I can stomach watching him first, ruining our Winter Classic with the GWG, then being on the Stanley Cup, then winning Olympic Gold. He's like the Stepford Wife of the hockey world. And, you know, I think he's probably a really nice guy, but the evil side of me just wants him to fail.

And trip on his own lips!

He's from my home province of Nova Scotia. Before, we used to be known as the home of Al MacInnis. The hardest shot in hockey! Now, we're known as the home of the human suction cup. :?

i dont hate crosby. sure he whines alot (whined, hes much better then he was at 18 (AND COME ON! THE KID WAS A KID! OF COURSE HES GOING TO BE IMMATURE!)) and sure its annoying to hear about him non stop. but it is what it is, and he deserves the praise he gets. hes a special, generational talent. he deserves to have his name on the cup, and a gold medal should he win one. im not going to discredit him with stuff. but i think everyone hates him, unless he plays in their teams jersey.

Yea, Slovakia and Czech teams are really good, imagine if they were still one country?
