I agree, man. It's the media having an orgy with anything and everything pertaining to Crosby that drives me retarded as well. I thought he showed some balls last night getting a high stick and staying in the game. But ok, it happens. Other players have had their nose broken one game, come out the next with no visor or bird cage on and head right back to the front of the net, only to have it happen again. Point is, you should expect to get banged up, it's hockey. Just because it's Crosby doesn't mean they can start praising him as the 2nd coming of Christ. He's not Wayne Gretzky, he'll never touch Gretzky's records and he couldn't even carry Gretzky's jock for crying out loud.
As for the mentality, I think it's ok to be motivated in thinking, "Nothing else matters but the Gold", to an extent. It’s great to have that as your goal. Hell, considering this team and the fiasco which happened back in 2006, any medal and I'm damn well happy as a Canadian! To finish in the top 3 at the Olympics when you consider the talent and skill all over the world in this game today, I'd say you've done pretty damn good for yourself!
If people in the NHL, IIHF and grassroots programs all over want to grow the game world wide, then they have to expect that other countries are going to improve in this sport. It's not just Canada’s game. Although I'd like to see our boys win the gold, I'm having a good time watching the best players in the world playing the game I love.
But I will admit I was amazed that it was his nose that was bleeding after the high stick. I was sure his lips would have offered more than enough padding to cushion the blow
