I love this man.

    President Obama: Not Welcome in Las Vegas?

    When the President visits most American cities, he receives a warm welcome, with local leaders lining up to greet Air Force One. But not so in Las Vegas. Mayor Oscar Goodman not only skipped the airport when Obama arrived last night, he also turned down a White House invitation to personally meet with the President.

    "I have told some folks who have asked under what terms I would meet and I said, 'If he calls me and indicates he will rectify the situation,'" the mayor said at his weekly news conference Thursday afternoon, "and buys me a martini, then I would certainly honor that request."

    "The situation" intensified last week when the president used Sin City as an example of unnecessary excess.

Egh that's kind of like saying when you want to go to the beach you don't go to Lake Erie in December. Not exactly untrue.

Las Vegas relies almost solely on tourist dollars to function.

Las Vegas has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country around 13.9%.

Obama twice told the country to not go to Las Vegas and blow a bunch of money when that exactly what Vegas desperately needs.

The president is wrong and the Mayor is right.

I more thought he was simply saying it's a bad idea to spend money frivolously in a recession more than he was telling people not to go to Las Vegas.

I thought that was the point he was going for as well. I do agree it was bad form to use Vegas as the example.

I don't blame the Mayor of Vegas for being a little grumpy about it, but it shouldn't be the end of the world.

He apologized to Harry Reid after the comments.
That should suffice as acknowledgment that it was a stupid thing to say.

I can understand the mayors point, but this guy WANTS you to go waste money you don't have, and he's the good guy?? If I was in debt I'd hope any friend of mine would tell me NOT to take the Vegas vacation. The guy does hang around with sleezy women though, maybe that's what makes him the better man. This nonsense is gonna make Bush hating look like mere child's play.

It's not that he wants you the debt ridden person to come down and blow your non existent money, he just wants people in general to go down and blow money. but when Obama blasted Las Vegas and essentially told people not to go there because it's a worthless town he has a right to be angry.

I'm not seeing this either. I can't see how you see Obama implying that rich people shouldn't be going there? He is clearly speaking to people with money trouble(such as PAYING COLLEGE TUITION).

Alright I guess I'm crazy then. I just assumed that Obama was calling out LV for being more trouble then it's worth.

Stop scrutinizing A FUCKING EXAMPLE. He could have easily said a hundred other things, but he used what pretty much ANYONE would use as an example of wasting money - GAMBLING.
