Leaked excerpts from Barack Obama's formal presidential greeting of the Holy Dalai Lama.

Louis Armstrong?

I'm sure the Dalai Lama loved it! :D

...and this audio clip of President Obama's personal parting message to the Dalai Lama as the meeting was concluding. Not sure how the esteemed Tibetan monk took this, but...

Is it possible we're over-hyping the Dalai Lama too? I mean I don't believe he's reincarnated to enlighten me, and I don't agree with most of his people's customs and traditions. I'm sure he's a lights out good guy, but that's about it(other than in a symbolic manner).

He's the exiled leader of an occupied and oppressed people who are completely peaceful.

Generally and historically, when a communist regime is shitting on people they can count the US among their friends.

Somewhat remarkable the left's sudden flippancy towards the Tibetan cause and the once revered Dalai Lama. Talk about a 180...their plight was up at the top of the liberal cause-list for years, and then, "POOF", gone. If GWB gave the Lama the cold shoulder and then secretly slid him out the garbage shoot the left would have been apoplectic.

The near hypnotic, trance-like power President Obama holds over his loyal followers is stunning to behold. I've never seen anything quite like it, and that's why I have such tremendous respect for how formidable and powerful he remains despite the lower poll numbers.

wasnt bush still as formidable and powerful when his poll numbers dipped into the 20s? its not that big a deal. the only reason this is a topic is because the right puts bama under a microscope and criticizes every step he takes. the man could probably cure breast cancer, and someone would make a topic reading "obama cures breast cancer, doesnt care about males with pancreatic cancer." or something.

No, not even close. Bush never commanded anything resembling Obama's mesmerized worshipers. Unconditional, unwavering love and faith was never felt towards him by anyone. Shit, GWB was mocked by those on the right almost as much as those on the left.

For conservatives, the best example, Reagan, definitely had believers that revered him to a degree, but nothing like the cult following of Obama's flock. Barack Obama is unique in my lifetime, and I think he could become more powerful than MLK, JFK and FDR combined before his time is done. Those on the right who dismiss him as a "one-term wonder" are grossly underestimating the depth of personal devotion among his believers.

Time will tell.

Reaching a bit here cross. ALL presidents have had to pick and choose battles. I'm not gonna get into if Barack is soft.

This is a great point, and one I've made before. It just falls on deaf ears. Every decision the guy makes is 'wrong' from the opposition's perspective, even if it meshes with their normal ideology.

He seems to think it was a very good meeting.

What is he supposed to say?

It's the damn Dalai Lama...he doesn't get mad...he doesn't hold grudges.

He doesn't lie either.

If he was truly unsatisfied with how things went, I don't think he'd be quiet about it. I think he'd just find a way to say it diplomatically.

I think he would.
It's called being a gracious guest.

That may be so. But Obama has first and foremost a commitment to the American people, not the Dalai Lama and Tibet, and pissing off China would not be a good thing for the American people.

I don't understand why this is such a big deal.

Two reasons it's a big deal
1. GWB got it right.
2. Tibet has been a darling cause of the progressive left for decades. Apparently someone forgot to give Obama that memo.

It's an opportunity to make Obama look bad at all costs.

Don't beat yourself up about it. I'm sure there are plenty of other subjects you can speak intelligently about. Everyone has their own areas of expertise.

Not true.
I'm a fan of the Dalai Lama. I've paid to see him speak twice.

Bumbling Bush got it right and Obama flubbed a no-brainer.
