MSNBC? MSNBC? The US vs. Canada match is relegated to an alternate cable channel to make room for the Ice Capades and Women's Speed Skating?

WTF!

What a disgrace...I may have to root for Canada tonight. Better the country that actually gives a fuck about the sport win at hockey while we're sweeping "Best Musical Score" and "Best Choreography" in our award winning production of "Broadway on Ice".

I thought I wasn't going to be able to watch this game. Unfortunately, I will be able to. :S It's going to be on the big screens here at work today out on the production floor. I'm shocked to find out that possibly one of the biggest; if not the biggest match up in men’s hockey isn't taking main stage in the US.

On that note, you're more than welcome to join us across the boarder, ETC! We have some garlic fingers, wings, poutine and some ice cold Alexander Keith’s all set to go for the game! You could be an honorary Canuck! :D

i had the same reaction as you when i found out about the game being on MSNBC. then i learned of the reason for it and while its logical, its still kind of BS.

NBC's reason is that its easier to cut out of events like ice dancing and speed skating to show other stuff then it is for a hockey game. which is true, imagine the uproar if they cut out of the third to show someones downhill run and missed the GWG or something like that.

...plus their "target audience" likes ice dancing... :?

I agree with Wozniak...put it somewhere they can leave it alone. At least it will be uncut except for commercials. But, I agree with ETC, too...hockey should be a priority, dammit!

The fact that the hockey game with the biggest drawing power of the Olympic tournament is nothing but an afterthought to NBC, ranking as barely worthy of a "brief cut over" during breaks in the Ice Dancing, is exactly why Gary Bettman's "strategy" of making the NHL a national sport in the US is doomed to failure.

Most of this country could care less about hockey, and Bettman is a complete ass for not realizing this obvious fact. The NHL is barely more popular than soccer and lacrosse here, and that will never change.

I must have missed Lacrosse's TV deal then...

Honestly, I don't care, we have a place to watch it and that's fine enough for me.

I bet it will beat NBC's current viewership record for any regular MSNBC programming anyway.

how does gary bettman fit in to NBC's coverage of olympic hockey? i think USA network bought the rights to team USA hockey during the preliminary round.

Every Hockey game has either been on CNBC or MSNBC so far, and I doubt it will change.

Like I said...I prefer it because its true that Olympic coverage cuts in and out to different sports and I don't want them messing with the coverage of the game if they think the viewers want to look at curing for a half hour in the middle of the third period. Besides, if MSNBC has better ratings than the ice dancing, that'll be very telling, I think. Most people know that they have two or three channels to watch the olympics on these days, so maybe people will tune in anyway.
