Okay; between this latest and greatest version of The Sabres Forums, and the old actual team site(s), what are your first memories?

Mine are the first people I interacted with, when I first joined in 2005 I believe. Realoldgoalie, Tsujimoto, NewfieJesus, drunkenexsabre, and a couple others I will remember after I post this. Polish Assassin and Bill Schultz were always a hoot; it's a shame Bill was put into a nursing home last year.... drunken sobered up, then disappeared.

I remember the second wave of people who replaced the initial group within a few months. Schony, TR Birdman, SF4, KrucifiedKevin, and of course our little buddy The Bowler were an intersting group as well. The gutter group was, well just interesting stuff. Froggie and SG14120 made thing interesting for a while, also.

Yours?

I joined the same day as Bethamus, and instantly connected with her, Caroline (who'll always be fly as hale), Alex (criminallyvu1gar), Ariel (peteythedancingsabre), and the departed alexkn64.

The first time I private messaged anyone on the forums was to discuss M.I.A. with Caroline, and she sent me Kala over AIM.

Ariel, I became a big brother to. We used to text and call each other before she even applied to UB, and I remember being so happy when she got accepted.

Beth...well, Beth and I have always been the odd ones, the pervs, the weirdos of the group. Joining only a few hours apart, early one we were "the twins".

I miss the old forums.sabres.com, not for the massive user list or inflated post counts (I was almost to 10,000 after nearly three years haha), but because of the spontaneity of it all.

You forgot me, Howie!

My first forum memories are pretty faded, as I joined wayyy back in October of 2003.

I do remember back then, there was a completely different set of regular posters. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that carried over from that point other than myself was hnfjw.

eSabre was a regular poster back then, but I don't know what happened to him.

Back then, we had email accounts to go along with our user names. It was awesome!

My first memories were of Bowler and that whole group. I wasn't around for the first wave of regulars. I lurked for a long time, only joining I think a few months after Bowler's passing, at some point in 2006. After joining I kept lurking till the end of that season, for the most part.

I used to PM Alex of the alexkn64 variety on a regular basis concerning how to deal with various trolls. Good times. Guess I can add, too, that Bowler always annoyed me till he started posting regularly in the Lounge and I realized he was a good guy. He loved his kids and really seemed like a great family guy for whom nothing ever seemed to work.

All this time and I've still only been to one MNG. Someday, I will have a car, and I will no longer be in college in Indiana.

From the old forums, I lurked for a long time and didn't officially join until this past summer. I think I was just starting to get to know who all the regulars were when XC made this kick ass place and we all made the leap.

Considering I'm still kind of a 'rook around these parts, I think the first contact I had directly with anyone from the old official boards was with Phil. I believe it was he who when I had posted a pic of the Mrs and I, said my jersey should have had #10 on it as opposed to #29 since apparently I look like Hank  Then the exchange of metal awesomeness took place (He introduced me to some killer fucking metal bands) and we set up our tour of the great city of Buffalo at the beginning of this season with Melly, Phil, MM and I. At that time, MM was a Habs fan. When we make our return in 14 days, she will officially be a true member of the Blue & Gold! :D Complete with her very own Tyler Myers 3rd jersey!

Since then, we've all been one big, delusional, dysfunctional happy family!

Thanks for providing us with this wonderful land of padded walls, XC!

"You forgot me, Howie!"

LOL! As I said, I'd forget a couple, but remember later. Hell, I barely remember last year; let alone 5+ years ago!

I joined in 06 I think...back when it was the gray FuseTalk forums that crashed when 20 people got on. But it had Private Topics! I think I lurked for 3-4 months before that, as well as on SabresFans.

Members that come to mind are Bowler, Bill Schultz, hnfjw, DaveyJoe, hockeyplaya00, Mcranex (Mach9), Gil, sabresgonkickyabutts (I think I got that right), burtonone55, kotalik22 (Lvnk or something?), SabresownU, puck, RoysieRocks, sabersfan92, Schony, Howie, Zilla, and a bunch of others.

What ever happened to a lot of those people?

Well going back to the old forums in 2007 I joined right around when the Sabres were on a tare that year and it seemed who joined those forums those days were accused of being a bandwagon fan  and if anyone remembers Gil he was one of the guys who always stuck up for me. Its too bad he's long gone, I miss reading his posts.

my first memory was getting banned for two hours by squanto, because i saw caroline gushing over marilyn monroe, and being the blunt person i am, i asked if she was a lesbian. i was 5 posts in! then beth jumped down my throat for being against gays, which shocked me. after that, i was all... fuck this place, but stayed around anyways.

all because daz asked me to come here, because i was at LGS, and they just got too high and mighty for my liking, and of course, took action into my own hands (the third ever salamander spam. it was glorious)

Beef on Weck & Trainwrecks, I'm sure, along with the greatest crazies in the world (all of us junkies) was all that was needed! :D

you PMed me asking if i was going to be a close minded troll, and i was all "i meant no harm what so ever!" then kinda turned it over on you explaining why i shouldnt have been timed out and allowed to defend myself (as i was under serious fire while being timed out)

you allowed me back on, and those were the end of my controversial days, for at least a week.

shockingly, a few months later, the person who was the harshest on me, beth, started talking to me regularly. i thought it was a set up. i figured she was gonna bitch me out for sure for at least a week.

My first post was about three sentences long and concerned whether Biron or Miller would start the next game. I do remember that.

Oh, and someone mentioned how anyone who joined the forums in 2005-2007 was labeled a bandwagoner. I remember that well. Haha. Now, a lot of them were, and they admitted it, but as far as I know they're all still fans. (Unless you're raised in a household where something is everything, everyone becomes a bandwagon fan of something at some point, typically; people don't generally become fans en masse of things receiving absolutely no exposure.)

Not really a first moment but last summer on the old forums I was timed out by Squanto :o ;) for calling some guy named Grand Island fans a douchebag, even though he was being a douchebag.

That was me. I really don't think you can consider a fan a bandwagon fan at 8 years old. A bandwagon fan is a Carolina Hurricanes fan :o ;)
