There isn't a tank large enough in the world to allow them to satisfy those energy needs and predatory instincts.

The proof is in the pudding. There have been ZERO recorded Killer Whale attacks on humans in the wild, whereas in captivity, it has happened over 20 times.

Correlation does not equal causation.

I makes more sense that the number of humans attacked has a lot more to do with the Orcas proximity to tasty humans and not the size of the enclosure.

Except for the fact that dives are conducted with Orcas on a regular basis in the wild as well, even during feeding.

I've seen documentaries on discovery about it before. They dive while the orcas are in full hunt mode without protection, and they always end up fine. There seems to be an incredible mutual understanding between humans and the wild animals.

right...but they're hunting tasty seals or whatever...There's no way a human in a wet suit tastes that good.

Unless someone has a study that says keeping them in captivity makes them more erratic and violent towards humans, it's a simple coincidence based on proximity.

None of the humans attacked in captivity have ever been consumed by the whales. There's a ton of debate as to why they do it, and 4/5 theories point to things other than food.

But even if it IS proximity... why take the unnecessary risk?

And aside from humans being harmed, there are other reasons, like ones mentioned as to why captivity is bad for whales, that we should NOT have them in captivity.

If she was really dragged in by her pony tail, it's likely that the whale saw the pony tail and thought it was a toy.

Some of the toys they play with are two flotation devices held together by rope...

How do those divers keep up with a feeding pack of orca's :?:

What were they feeding on? One of those black and white beauties would look awesome on my wall - I need to bait up! When I catch one, everyone is invited to Cross's for the BBQ :obscene-drinkingcheers:

hey, you don't see my ass jumping in a tank with killer whales...the people that take that risk can speak for themselves...I consider them dumbasses no matter how much they think the love the animals.

Animals in cages aren't good ideas period. I think Zoo's should be re-purposed as places for endangered species' that we happen to be trying to help recover.

My .02 cents

I would like fried orca brain with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

Bah...I'm confined in an office all day which makes me neurotic and sometimes violent towards my keepers.
At least those bastards get free fish to eat.
