I've been very worried that the Olympic grind would grind Miller into the ground for the rest of the NHL grind. Well, it seems he's indeed getting tired of the grind.

"I talked to him last night a little bit, but not a ton," Gaustad said. "He's doing well and he's focusing on the job he's gotta do. He said it's a little tiring, but he's ready for tonight and it's going to be a good game...

Yeah, I'm worried about him when he comes back. He's going to be exhausted.

It's not that much worse than an NHL sechedule, is it? The entire month of Nov. or Dec. we were playing 4 games a week.

If Darcy doesn't land a back up goaltender, expect to see Enroth.

In the two week period before the Olympics, Miller played 6 games. He made 192 saves in those games.

So far in the Olympics, Miller has played 4 games. (No matter what, he'll play 6.) He's made 85 saves, and aside from Canada, hasn't had to make more than 19 saves in any single game.

While he'll certainly get more work tonight and in their final game, it's clear that he hasn't been tested nearly as much in these games as he has been in NHL play.

Honestly, I think that the 'ZOMG MILLER IS GOING TO BE EXHAUSTED' argument is a major overstatement.

I think he will be worn to the nub, but I do love your optimism, Squanto. Hope I'm wrong and you're right.

Don't forget to factor in jet lag when they first got there, and they're probably going through some tough practices now that they're in the final few games. Again though, can't be anything worse than what he goes through in Buffalo.

We truly are not worthy of Miller!

More than that, BS, is that he's also playing under tremendous pressure. Every game is an elimination game for his country, and when it's over he'll not only have to deal with the physical grind but the mental and emotional toll as well. I hope for then best, but fear the worst.

Thing is, we knew this was coming, so if Lalime busts and Miller fades in the home stretch Darcy and Lindy will only have themselves to blame for not having a better backup to carry some of the heavy lifting. Remember, if this team hopes to advance far in the playoffs Miller will have to somehow carry the load into May and beyond...a real tall order even in a non-Olympic year.

It concerns me too, ETC.

He's going to come down from the Olympic high and have to try to play up to the same level for a long stretch of 4 games every week.

Not good.

He'll be fine down the stretch, no doubt in my mind.

The guy knows what expected of him, and Ruff will get him the rest he needs going into the playoffs.

I think worrying about something like this is a bit preemptive especially with a trade deadline coming up, and the possibility of getting a more "strudy" back up, or using our right of recall for a rising star in Enroth. There are plenty of options out there, so at this point, I am about as worried as having 22 games left in the season, and being tied for the division lead...

Wilson threw Thomas in for the third period, to give miller a rest. Thomas ruined miler's shut out but still.

True... I'm also thinking he was concerned about injuries after seeing Ruutu tackle him in the goal crease.

Either way, good for us, and good for USA.

weve had this conversation alot today. miller was no longer eligible for a shutout once he was pulled. not when thomas gave up the goal. you have to play a whole game to obtain a shutout.

In theory, you're right Mike.

But to us, it doesn't matter. :D

His time will still be counted for his previous 100 minutes though.

I'm a little worried to be honest... What was shaping up to be a stellar season for him iiiiiiiinnnn 07-08? fell apart because of exhaustion. :? What a fun year that was.

It's not as if there isn't a precedent for the possibility.

no need for a good back up goalie this year....darcy threw in the towel on this year, and is focusing on next year....if anything look for players to be shipped out to help contenders, and possibly enroth coming up
