Thought I'd keep this separate from the earthquake thread, just because there's some good earthquake specific conversation going.

Yeah they've had warnings going out pretty much right since the earthquake.

Boats are frantically being pulled out of the harbors and moved further onto land, and all other procedures are under way, including evacuations and closures.

This is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. With the first reading from a buoy about ten minutes ago, it's expected to hit Hawaii in a matter of minutes. I don't think we've ever seen anything like this play out on television.

Interesting. They said it was expected to hit at 4. So far we're behind schedule.

Does that mean it's larger than anticipated?

God I hope not...

the stream i'm watching just showed boats still out on the ocean. I know the coast guard was yelling at people from helicopters to get to a safe elevation and not surf. certainly they got the boaters as well.

if you are in the water, you are ok. its not a huge wave, a wall of water. the wave is probably maybe 10 feet tall when it hits land... the water just keeps coming after it.

Exactly. It's not the height. It's the length.

You know when you're at the beach, and a wave rolls up on shore, and it eventually pulls back before the next one comes?

A tsunami rolls up the shore, and just doesn't stop. It moves up onto land and floods inland for extended periods of time.
