That link is good Psych. What happens to this thing after it hits Hawaii? Does it just keep going? After what MSNBC just showed, the answer to that question is yes.

What time did the quake happen? Hawaii is about 6000 miles away. How fast is this thing going?

my sister lives on the Big Island...her and her husband don't sound too concerned at least as they've moved out to higher elevation

When they do hit something, the wave goes around it, or ping pongs in another direction. It basically keeps going until the energy is expended.

It looks like the 4th wave has hit and they're expecting one more. I guess it's a blessing there doesn't appear to be any significant damage. Can this thing pick up in intensity as it continues northwest or weaken like a hurricane?

I think this is fascinating.

it should stay the same intensity. it could weaken, but if it does, itll be minimal. it all depends on what the beach is like when it comes to damage.

The intensity is dependent on many factors. The raw energy of the wave dissipates over time, but seafloor topology can magnify the effects or concentrate them in a certain area.

Guess the tsunami wasn't that bad at all. My sister and husband didn't sound worried at all before it happened anyway.
