First in the East.

I'm not going to let the anomaly of the road trip to decide anything. :P

Well we are one point behind Jersey for second in the East.

We play 6 of the next 9 at home and stay on the Eastern coast, except to Columbus.

1st in NE 3rd in the Conference still.

2-3-2 is hardly a good road trip. I liked the effort of the road trip, I thought we played some good hockey. But 6 of a possible 14 points is a fail imo.

I know there is no coulda shoulda woulda, but had a few things gone our way we could have very well had 10 pts. Just gotta show we're a hard working team and can rebound from something like that, and we sure showed a good rebound tonight against NJ.

Well if you watched every game, even if you did, the team showed they could hang with any team, and played great hockey. They came back from 4 goals down against Anaheim and nearly won that game.

Had it not been for the shootout losses, Fraser, or Lalime, those three were our games for the taking.

We see those teams once a year really, so you don't know their tendencies either. In a 7 game series you learn quickly what to adjust on.

Yes, there are all kinds of couda, shouda, woulda ways of putting a positive spin on the road trip, but the bottom line was that it wasn't a high point in the season for the boys.

The good news is that is all forgotten if we make a strong run going into the Olympic break (which I want to be done quickly and without incident - this little extra curricular hockey in the midst of the season makes me nervous).

Losing a SO is losing, there is no possible spin on that. The SO is an ultimate game decider for now, and Buffalo hasn't done well with it (again). Had Fraser allowed the goal, it would've been a tie game and everything after that would have been altered. Fraser wound up giving Buffalo a PP very quickly anyway which still tied the game. Either way Buffalo had the chance to win while it was tied 2-2, and they lost. As for Lalime, he didn't lose that game by himself. The team clearly came out not ready. Even if all four goals were Lalime's fault so what? Every team has a back-up goalie that they need to rely on at times. If Buffalo's back-up isn't that good, then the overall team isn't as good as they could be, right?

Damn I hate woulda coulda shoulda. There's what is, and what isn't...what was and what wasn't.

Anyway, they should still hang on to the division lead and maybe give NJ a push for 2nd overall. Ottawa probably doesn't have enough time to catch up by mid Feb, but even by April it would be a tall order to pass Buffalo. Buffalo has three games in hand so it would require quite a slump to fall under Ottawa. The really tough part is if Buffalo and Ottawa wind up #2-#7 or #3-#6, with Ottawa having the jinx on Bufffalo AND coming into the playoffs hot.

Looks like we will have to be the team to stop the winning streak of the red-hot Sens.

Well if we are the team to stop them, I really want to see it happen.

We better come out strong for that game. Start Lalime for the Pittsburgh game and let us have a rested Miller.

I always get overly nervous for Senators games, even if they're as close to completely meaningless based on the standings as divisional games can get.

If I were Lindy, I'd play the hell out of Miller now, for desire to play against a tired Miller in the Olympics

That was the first and only time I had seasons for a playoff sweep. Amazing sight all those brooms were ;)

Nice to see you back SensFan. Rob, I think it was? Always good to talk hockey with opposing fans when they're not trolling.

I agree with your assessment about the Sens chances over the Sabres no matter unpopular my opinion may be. Sens have our number in recent years. We are their bitch and fans will never get over the Neil/Drury game. I don't want to play the Sens in the regular season let alone any round in the PO's ;)

Hey - did you win that contest a while back? I have a good memory when I want to

Welcome back. Glad you found us on these awesome forums.

SG

You do have a good memory. I would be :o if you actually remembered the contest name. I got lots of votes from Sabres fans and came close to being in the top 10 for votes. Unfortunately close only counts in horse shoes. :)

I agree...it's always nice to talk hockey with apposing fans. I'm a Sens fan 1st and a Sabres fan 2nd. I wish the Sens had Miller. He could easily be an integral player, in helping the US win Gold at the Winter Olympics. I guess Elliot's been doing okay lately, so he'll do for now. lol

I'm looking forward to a 10 game winning streak on Wednesday night. .......

Rob

I'm just saying.

You always made me laugh at the old forum and you still make me laugh. As much as i'd like to see the Sens catch the Sabres for 1st in the NE, the only way I see it happening is if they win the remaining 3 games against the Sabres. Oh ya....It's now a 9 game win streak. Here's to the Sens keeping pace with the Caps this coming Wednesday. .....

I agree. The Sens will need to win all 3 remaining games against the Sabres and hope the Sabres have a slump or two along the way. A pretty tall order i say. It will be close i think.
Wednesdays game will be pivitol for the Sens, if they have any real hope of catching the Sabres for 1st in the NE.

As much as i would love the Sens to extend this winning streak until the end of the season and into the playoffs....it's got to end sometime. I have a feeling it will be against the Sabres this wednesday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

The Sens play 16 of their remaining 26 games on the road (if I'm counting correctly), so it is an uphill climb for you guys. We also play 16 more games on the road, but we have 13 at home (the three game difference are the ones we have in hand).

However, the last game of the season is Buffalo @ Ottawa.

I'm hoping that it isn't a meaningful game, but if it decides first in the East it would be...interesting.

Actually, Ottawa's last game is Buffalo, but Buffalo plays New Jersey the next day for their last game. Even still, what would be pretty comical is if Buffalo and Ottawa are #3 and #6 seeds at the time of that game, and Ottawa is a point behind the #5 seed. Buffalo would be trying to give the game away in order to avoid Ottawa in the opening round, and Ottawa would be trying to lose to keep that match-up. The game would devolve into a series of own goals as each team does their best to manipulate the standings. I would pay money to see that.

I'll agree also. With the way Ottawa has been playing, it could be closer than when I first made that post.

But I'm still hoping for an Ottawa Freefall, but they will be in the playoffs this year.
