My parents moved back to WNY from New Orleans the weekend before the Blizzard of '77
All of our things were delayed because the guys driving the moving truck wouldn't go near Buffalo until it had been cleared up.

My mother wasn't amused...just like you said Schony, you could step out of a 2nd floor window of my house and slide down the snow bank to the ground.

Back in the day, I thought this game was created just for us in Buffalo. Unfortunately that was just ruined by the damn internet. There was a friggin blizzard game created for several cities up and down the east coast...how depressing :(

Being in Rochester, this is how I remember it. We were all sent home from school (I was in 7th grade) because a 'wall of snow' was headed our way. Like all monster storms, though, it decided to back up and hit Buffalo again and never did hit Rochester the way it did Buffalo. So, we got to go home and play in what snow we had with the sun shining.

Can you imagine being blown off the Skyway in a blizzard? Or freezing to death in your buried car? Does anyone know how many people died in the storm?

Scary.

Holy Jesus. Anyone who remembers this must really hate winter. If so, I can see why!

Something like this happened to us in the fall/winder of 2003/04.

We got hit with Hurricane Juan which absolutely crippled the city of Halifax. I was living up there at the time. Literally, buildings were destroyed, cars were picked up and tossed like clothes in a dryer, it was bad. Not even 2 months later, we were hit with what was called, "White Juan". It started off as light snow one night. Then winds picked up and so did the snow. Within an hour of the storm starting, power was gone. This went overnight and into the next day. The city was shut down again. What used to be city streets were soon covered in about 6 foot snow drifts which spanned entire streets. I woke up and ventured out to a friends place as he was the only one I knew that had power. The snow was packed so thick from drifting that you could walk on it. I remember slipping and falling through one section though, that was actually a snow covered car, slipped off the roof. That was scary shit as I was alone and was sure the snow would collapse onto of me.

Thinking back to those days, makes me not like the whole winter thing much, but it did add for excitement and not having to go to work :P

I just remember sitting around the weather radio listening to them talk about the wall of snow coming. Egads!

ahhh yes....77' i was 5 and my sister was 3....we both were outside playing in the snow maybe 100 - 200 feet from our house....when all of a sudden it was like an instant white out and you could not see very far at all.....since we couldn't see our house we started crying....

luckily some garbage men found us and returned us home :-)

I know my dad remembers this year, even though he never lived in Buffalo, but I don't know if Salamanca got hit by it.

I would have been -14 years old at this time. :D

I rememember this well. My brother and I sledded from outside my parents second story bedroom window.

I went over to Amherst, and threw snow in Schony's face. Those rich for tits houses out in Williamsville? I kicked a young ETC's ass in a snowball fight.

This was a tiring endeavor. I was given a hot drink of cocoa by a not so young Bill Schultz on my way home. Bill was perhaps 50 at the time; god he must be getting on.

But yes; as a Sweet Home Student, it rocked getting a few days off. Only negative was that Mom and Pops had no snowblower at the time; and my brother and I still had strong backs and weak minds at the time........

Yeah, well, I remember soon afterward Icehound showed up drunk and ornery on his snowmobile all pissed off about how you ran through his yard, and chased you for a good two miles.

I was 10 years away from being born at that point.

It's a shame, too. That looks like fun. :)

Tonight through tomorrow we are suppose to get anywhere from 2-10 inches depending on who you want to listen to.

If we really do get this amount of snow, there will be nothing open, and the state will shut down, or at least the Raleigh area will.

Half the time whenever a meteorologist calls for snow it just rains only. I'll see tomorrow if we actually got any snow or not.
