We haven't even hit the trade deadline yet!

Could you at the very least save your 'woe is me' moments for after that point?

You're screwing with my optimism.

yeah...that seems like a bit of a stretch...The Sabres are 1 point down from the division lead and 5th place in the conference.
All signs point to them being buyers at the deadline which, as pointed out, we have yet to reach.

Chill.

So far in the Olympics, Miller has played 4 games. (No matter what, he'll play 6.) He's made 85 saves, and aside from Canada, hasn't had to make more than 19 saves in any single game.

While he'll certainly get more work tonight and in their final game, it's clear that he hasn't been tested nearly as much in these games as he has been in NHL play.

Honestly, I think that the 'ZOMG MILLER IS GOING TO BE EXHAUSTED' argument is a major overstatement.

I'm gonna take it a step further. I say that the Olympics will be a GOOD thing for Miller. It will give him confidence, and more experience in huge games.

Anybody remember 1998? Hasek played a ton in Buffalo, flew to fucking Nagano, stood on his head, won the gold, then got right back to business. The Sabres went to the ECF mainly on Hasek's back.

The Olympics made Hasek stronger. Obviously Ryan Miller is not Hasek. But he is having a Hasek-esque season, so why not believe the Olympic experience will have a positive effect on Miller too?

Mental exhaustion in goaltending is much, much worse than physical exhaustion.

It's extremely difficult to jump from a championship game to a regular season game and stay at the same level.

Time will tell. I hope I'm wrong.

I was thinking the exact same thing today. I see this as Millers coming out as one of the best in the world.

Its true hes not facing as many shots as normal, but the pressure and mental strain is 10X more intense than regular season games. I think Miller is mentally strong enough to carry us.

Whatever perceived physical weaknesses Miller has, mentally he's 10 times stronger than Hasek ever was.

i think miller is fantastic. i dont think he will go down as a hall of famer, but a great talent. but im sorry, i just think hasek is the end all, be all of buffalo goalies. wow, do i miss his action in his old bauer pads.

Loved those bauer pads.

Miller has a lot of career left. We'll see if he does what it takes to make hall of fame. You never know.

Oh yes he does. We can expect the playoffs for the next 6-7 years barring his injury. Maybe that's the "time frame" Darcy is using(as Myers matures). I just hope when the time comes, he throws in all the marbles. No 'waste our resources' for Zubrus deal(which would be Whitney this year), but a legitimate over-the-top move, when the time is right.

Not enough. Token gesture nowadays. They used to trade guys like him REGULARLY. Not as a big buyer move.

I would think that this is the right year, or perhaps next year. This is the best team we will ever have while "building from within". Once we are as good we will get while building from within...that's when we make the big trade and run for the Cup, which is now or next year.

Ryan Miller is absolutely wonderful. Just putting that out there.

Hasek was a great goaltender, and he made some disgusting saves over the years. However, a lot of those disgusting saves had to be made because he was out of position so damn much. He natural abilities helped him recover better than almost every goaltender out there, which is what made him special.

Miller doesn't have to make those outlandish saves because he's technically superior. He plays his angles almost perfect, takes away so much net from the shooters, frankly makes it LOOK easy, which I think is why people in the past have doubted his abilities.

yes and no. miller is technically sound, while hasek was not. but, haseks style was by design. i mean, you cant be THAT out of position, THAT often, and get those results as constantly as he did.

AMEN.

Please -- last I looked, there were still 22 games left; If Regier indeed has thrown in the towel on this year, he needs to be canned at the end of it {like he should have been when he said just before '08-'09, "we're just not going to have as good a record this year" . . .}

I know what you mean, PSP -- but this is Darcy Regier we're talking about . . .

If he was really gonna do anything, he'd of done so before the Olympic freeze -- seeing as how he didn't give himself carpal tunnel picking up his phone before the roster freeze, I can't see him doing anything in the 48 hours between the freeze expiration and the trade deadline . . .

Not to mention 100x less the prima donna Hasek ever was.

Well, now that we know the outcome {and, for the record, I'd just like to say, once more, fuck you, Crosby}, I see Miller as having one of two possible responses.

Either he'll be mentally drained from having given up the GW in OT and having to settle for Silver, OR

he'll be PISSED and will take it out on the Sabres' opponents from here on out.

I'm gonna go with the latter.

So, five or 6 teams make the entire NHL.

The only teams to move anyone was the Rangers, Atlanta, Devils, Flames, Toronto, Carolina, and the Senators.

Please, the trade deadline is a much bigger event, so really if you think because Darcy didn't make a move before the freeze just like 23 other GMs, it's the end of the world so just go fuck off.

The roster freeze was a great time to evaluate your roster and see what you really need, and get into contact with other GMs of other NHL teams. And because Darcy has made a move every year at the trade deadline you're doubting him now? they may not be the biggest of moves, but they do help. Moore would have been a good keeper if he played like he did with Toronto here. Bernier would have been a good third line guy also if he had not wanted so much money, Zubrus was a gritty guy to be used when we were holding a lead and if he didn't want as much money also with his age and knees.

I'm sorry, I didn't expect many teams in the thick of things to make a move before the Olympic break, and if I recall the only team who has a lead in their division that made a move was the Devils. and they did it even before the official freeze.

So fuck off then dude, you obviously are too blinded about Darcy not making blockbuster moves every other at the trade deadline to realize he actually makes moves that can help the team, I think the only year he didn't was the 05-06 run.

You could have made your point without the 'eff off'.

Oh, and for the record, Darcy has made at least one trade every year for 11 years straight. Just tossing that out there for consumption.
