The thing is Burke came to toronto with nothing and has made a few moves and boom has trade bait. not saying toronto is good at the moment, but a few more tweaks and i'm sure they'll be competing for a playoff spot. And Burke really had not much to trade. which means this team has no excuse. Good GM's find a way to make things work, not wait for something to happen.

I agree what this team needs is a number one offensive player. But it's not going to happen unless Darcy decides to try some of his core players. The Vanek deal is over with for a couple years now and I blame Management and Darcy for that blunder. He should have been signed way before an offer sheet could be made on any restricted players that year. I'm not really expecting much out of Darcy tomorrow so I'm not getting my hopes up. This team needs a superstar on offense only problem their's not much cap space and it's going to require getting rid of core players to do it. I just don't see him making a trade like that. That's why if you follow Darcy closely everything is based thru the draft. That's the only way this team is going to acquire a superstar is by bringing that player thru the system and hope he develops into top talent because I just don't see him going out and acquiring that player.

I totally agree. The Kessell deal really isn't that bad he gave up two future picks which will take some time to develop and he's got a very good player who you can build around now. Good Gm's find a way to make their teams better instead of telling us fans about the market and the market value. This is why I look forward to the draft because this is the only way this team will acquire what we need because Darcy isn't willing to take chances and shake up the team a bit thru a trade.

Lydman and Stafford for Horton + prospect.

WHY NOT, FLORIDA?!

Why not?

Perhaps because Florida's GM would only make that move if he were drunk.

Lydman would be a rental and of no value to Florida and Horton is better than Stafford.

Where is the upgrade for Florida beyond cap space?

To get Florida's attention, the Sabres would likely need to offer up guys like Kassian, Ennis, and the like and not UFAs-to-be like Lydman and underachievers like Staff & Mac.

St Louis is trying to trade Brad Boyes to clear cap space.

He's struggling this year. But, he's coming off seasons of 33 & 43 goals.

Add in that he's under contract for two more seasons at $4M per against the cap and he's a get-able guy that could add some pop offensively at the 2nd line RW spot.

Mac for Boyes
Stafford to Edmonton for Tom Gilbert

Git er done!

Yeah JB, I said the same thing about Horton. You could offer Mac and a very nice combo of pick/prospect and Florida still might not bite.

I heard about Boyes on NHL Live yesterday, and I wonder what's up with his game this season. A disappointment for sure, but I don't know enough about his game to have an opinion on whether his 4 mil cap hit is worth the risk. He's a big guy but does he play that way? I see only 20 PIMs and a -1 rating which isn't too bad for playing in StL.

I've also thought about Gilbert, and Stafford and a pick might be enough, but is Edm even interested in letting him go? I doubt it. Even if Darcy could pull it off, that's 8 mil between Gilbert and Boyes and that won't fit until all the UFAs walk.

http://www.forecaster.ca/thestar/hockey/player.cgi?2129

Quote:
ASSETS: Has excellent hockey sense and a sniper's mentality. Also owns playmaking qualities and a deft touch around the net.
FLAWS: Defensively, his transition to wing hasn't gone as smoothly as his level of production. He's also a little soft and can get pushed off the puck.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Scoring winger.

He's 6' 200 lbs, so he's not huge.

And he doesn't play an overly physical game.

He's all about scoring goals and doesn't bring a ton to the table if he isn't scoring.

Personally, I'd like to roll the dice on a guy like him.

But, that's just me....

Who's out there like that? I don't know if there's necessarily a player like that on the market, but I'd trade a lot for a player like Horton.

The only other Fla forward that is being shopped is Stillman, and he's not worth much. 35 yrs old and put up 11-15-26 pts. No thanks.

what about Wolski

12:04 PM: Adrian Dater: Bruins inquired about Wolski, but Avs would want a 1st rounder, not likely

Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Avs have put Wolski’s name out there, with the Coyotes Peter Mueller mentioned as a possible return. The Avalanche could look at bringing in Joe Corvo.

I've also read that Grabner might be available from Vancouver

10:57 AM: Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun: Finding some 3rd line scoring is on the wish list of Canucks coach, Alain Vigneault. If GM Mike Gillis agrees, he may look at Steve Reinprecht, who he considered bringing in last season. Other options could be Eric Belanger, Doug Weight, or Jeff Halpern. If they are worried about Willie Mitchell’s health, they might look at Aaron Ward or Andy Sutton. 2006 1st round pick, Michael Grabner, might be bait to bring in some help.

two austrians on the same line, could it be like the sedins (i'm joking)
