This. He's a nice guy and all, but he just sucks now... Maybe we should give him another re-conditioning stint in Portland?

Miller disappointed by booing of Lalime

Ryan Miller said today he was disappointed that folks in HSBC Arena treated Patrick Lalime so harshly Friday night after Lalime gift-wrapped Minnesota's second goal.

"They paid their money and they can express themselves however they choose," Miller said. "It's always disappointing as a player to be on the other end of that. I felt for Patty. He made a mistake. We all make mistakes. They can do whatever they want but it is disappointing.

"I've made huge mistakes and you just continue to play. I thought Patty did that. He turned in a good performance. The mistake can happen to anybody but he gave the guys a chance to win."

Yep...it was pretty funny. At least we won, makes it easier to look back on it and laugh.

Oh yeah, Lalime was definately the reason we lost last night, no denying that. I just wouldn't boo the guy. It's not every day the team actually shows up, and the day they do, he let's in a couple of really bad ones. It sucks but it happens. Just like the team has a habit of playing shaky and scared with Lalime in net, I'm sure he plays a little shaky not knowing what team is going to show up in front of him...

That said, Lalime won't be here next season.

We'd be calling out any forward for looking as mentally checked out as Lalime has looked at times this season.

But no other position requires the mental capacity and focus as the goaltender. Add in the fact he plays once a month (id say this isn't even normally his fault since what team wouldn't want to ride a goalie like Miller?), add in the fact the team around him generally doesn't show up, add in the fact that he's obviously older and way past his prime. The guy never has a chance to work the rust off, he's permanently caked in it. I'm not saying I want him on my team, I was with everyone else saying we probably should've found someone better for the job at the trade deadline... but for the rest of the season, I see him less as a backup goalie and more as just a team guy (Andrew Peters syndrome), which honestly, he spends more time being (and is better at) then actually between the pipes anyways. It's less frustrating that way lol.

And besides, while he let in 2 bad goals that took a lot of wind out of our sails, I believe he still stopped 30 of 33 shots that game. That's not a terrible night to most goaltenders. It's not like it would've been impossible for the team to bail him out if they weren't facing an apparently hot goaltender in Harding.

I hope so, he is just a horrible goalie.

He's not horrible, I mean, well, sometimes, but we're used to seeing Miller. That's like comparing your art teacher with Van Gogh. 30/33 = .909 save percentage. Not good at all, but still, 3 goals isn't a whole lot in hockey. We can score in bunches, it's just a lot of work, which, apparently, our team doesn't really want to do.

Don't get me wrong, Patty is awesome, but he is getting old and isn't a good goaltender. There isn't a focus or anything like that, he just isn't a good goalie. To answer the questions of "how does he have good games then", everyone has a good and bad game.

I understand how your home team can make you want to boo sometimes, but I really don't like to take part in it.

Especially on a guy like Lalime, who has a reputation of being a very good person.

It's not like he isn't putting the effort in. He just doesn't have the ability anymore. He's lost touch.

Playing in front of Lalime at times could be good for this team. Lindy should be telling them that this is what we've got, and they need to do a better job of supporting him during the games.

If anything, it'll get this group to start playing for a full 60 minutes because the security of Miller isn't behind them.

When they can overcome that, they will be a cup worthy team.

But not until then.

All this "don't boo Patty cuz he's a good guy" talk is bullshit. He isn't getting booed cuz someone said he beat his wife or abandoned his children, he's getting booed cuz he's pathetic in the crease.

Wrong. No goalie should be booed..especially our backup. He's not a great goalie and he lets in some softies but no goalie should be booed or given a sarcastic cheer. All that does is ruin his confidence even more.

Egh I think these guys are a bit too mentally tough to let it affect them too much one way or another.

Some players get woken up a bit when the home fans unload on them. Others, not so much.

People are going to boo when they're unhappy. Not much you can do about that.

We only have to put up with Lalime for 15 more games plus the playoffs.

We will probably see Lalime in 2 more of our regular season games only.
