The start of the playoffs is a whole new season. The higher seeded teams being knocked out doesn't mean that the East is a weaker conference; it means the lower seeded teams are playing better hockey. This doesn't mean that the East has no chance to compete for the cup.

Pittsburgh isn't as strong as they were last year, I really do believe with them losing Gill and Scuderi they are lacking too much on defense.

Boston won't have the firepower to compete either with a Western powerhouse.

Montreal, well they could actually be a huge surprise, if Halak keeps it up, no one will beat them.

Philly, well Broduer has sucked and I didn't watch any of it, but will Gagne and Carter be too much for them to overcome now?

Pittsburgh is the only team I see having a chance against the West, they are a little worse than last year but still good enough to get the job done. Boston maybe if Savard lights a fire under their asses.
