[color=#FF0000]Atlanta Thrashers' goaltender Ondrej Pavelec collapsed just two minutes into the season opener against the Washington Capitals and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher.

With play halted at the opposite end of the ice, the 23-year old Czech netminder suddenly dropped to the ice and did not move for nearly 10 minutes. Team physicians and personnel tended to him before he was removed on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital for further observation.

It is not yet known what caused the collapse or Pavelec's status.

After a lengthy delay, Chris Mason took over in the Thrashers net.
