I think the team's put out a pretty big message too; they've played pretty good hockey without him.

Give Vanek the C, the A, a could of Ds and make him the starting goalie too.

I agree, and it's the right message. Play your best every night, or you sit.

True dat

Keep in mind last year when Vanek came back from his injury. He pretty much carried the team, and then when he went down, the team completely failed.

EDIT: Not to mention him playing basically on severed tendons in his leg, and he still scored in that last game.

I believe in Thomas Vanek. Derek Roy is also equally a good candidate.

I think Pominville did as well.

Vanek never had the C during the rotating captaincy.

I say Vanek gets the C and Goose or Roy with the A. Been playing the "Vanek for Captain" song for a couple years now.

Vanek shouldn't get the C. He is not leadership material. Plus, he's on a hot streak, it's not like he scored 10 goals already.

That Ennis goal doesn't happen last night without Vanek sweeping the puck to Roy after he got taken out.

And that Myers goal doesn't happen without Vanek giving Hamhuis a stick lift before he could clear the puck.

And we all saw what he did against Washington.

When Vanek takes things into his own hands and throws on the mean face, he's straight up scary to play against.

If he could do that on a regular basis, I'd be all for making him captain. His backcheck was great last night too.

Even before that, it was all him who set up Ennis's goal against the Rangers also, it was his first shot that made it happen or pass to Roy.

I also think he was a main reason Roy got a goal against Jersey, yes Roy shot at the blue line but Vanek passed him the puck from the redline to a wide open Roy.

These past five games Vanek has really tried to carry this team on his back, and All of Ennis's last few goals have been because of Vanek making the plays happen.

I think when Vanek picks the team up and puts it on his back SUCCESSFULLY, he'd be great captain material - a real lead-by-example type. Unfortunately, it happens to much UNSUCCESSFULLY and that's why I don't think he'd be a good captain.

Roy did a helluva lot of growing up and focusing this off-season and is on pace for a 34g/91pt season. And he's being consistent. And he's busting his ass on a nightly basis. I am in favor of giving Roy the C and Vanek an A.

He isn't a Gaustad or a Rivet. He can't lead the team. He's an offensive player. That's about it.

Pretty sure he's looked like a solid leader the past 5 games, going the extra mile to win.

If he never scored that OT winner we really wouldn't be saying that. Past 5 games my ass past 3 is more like it.

There's no reason a star forward can't lead a team, so I think your logic is a little flawed. That being said, I don't think the Sabres' star forward can do it. He's too much of a head case, and may always be, to be a captain.
