Ennis is 165 and he's trying to get heavier. He's 5'9. He's not that short. He's able to make it. And with his sick hands it's even better.

Saying he will never be a superstar is really really stupid.

I dont know why everyone has such a hard on for Ennis. Yeah he's a skilled player, but he is another small forward, who lacks the toughness to out work a larger defender in the corner. He's got hands to all hell, no doubt about it, but unless he's not having to work down in the corner, he's not that great. He can't dump and chase, watch him tonight, it's painful to watch him dump the puck in, then try to get to it.

Will he be a good player? Yes, no doubt in my mind, he is a good player. Will he ever be a "super-star" never, no, wont happen. Look at the superstars in the league, all over 6ft 190 pounds. Ennis on his best day is what, 5'9 155 pounds?

Sure you get a St. Louis every once in a while, but for every St. Louis, you get 50 Gerbe's.

(Bring on the hate)

First of all, I have to admit, Ennis would have been more likely to flourish immeidately after the lockout. He would've fit nicely onto the 05-06 team.

Still, never underestimate the value of being such a slippery little fuck. Of all the Sabres, he is one of the few that I have confidence will slip around guys and get a shot off. If you're a big guy, guys like Ennis are a real pain in the ass.

Will he be a superstar? Maybe not, but in certain game situations in the future, he will be a difference maker.

In any league, THAT has lots of value.

You know, I've seen Ennis go into corners and be the one to come out with the puck even against guys much bigger than him.

gerbe now has 0+5=5 in 19 games. that comes out to 0+21=21 points in an 82 game season.

so here it comes. a 2 point night for gerbe, his numbers still suck. BUT after a 2 point night, im willing to ease up for another game.

I think you guys are completely misunderstanding my point. He's a solid 2nd line guy, but he is NOT a first line player. He may develop into one, but right now, he's just an average 2nd line player. On pace for about 45 points this year. Not bad, not great. Heck our top scorers are only on pace for 75. What I was trying to say is, he's not a 1st line winger, he's not a 1st line center. He's a contributor. Some people act like he's the second coming on Briere, and he's not. He's a small skilled player with good hands, and decent speed. When he gets up to 175 pounds or so, he will be a tough guy to play against. He's still too young, and too small to be thrust onto a 1st line and be forced to go against the Phaneufs, Charas, etc...He's just giving up too much to those guys.

At least 4 good shots on goal too.

He's knocking. He just has to keep his feet moving.

I agree too, but he will become a first line guy in time. First full year in the NHL also.

I agree with Jay wholeheartedly about Ennis. The guy is not a Vanek, and he isn't even a Roy.

On Gerbe, watching him in person tonight (or last night), it seems pretty clear that this guy is still stuck in an AHL mindset. He makes a lot of plays that I'm sure worked great down there, but are useless against better players.

There was a perfect example some time in the early parts to middle of the game. Gerbe wound up with the puck along the boards at the top of the faceoff circles and a good amount of space. Rather than look for a pass or attempt to skate in and make a move, he took two strides and took a wrister at the top right (far) corner. That might have worked for him in the AHL, but in the NHL, unless you're Ovechkin or Stamkos, every goalie is going to glove that shot with ease.

It was just classic Gerbe.

Classic Gerbe is not getting any shots. That's why he hasn't been on the scoresheet. Last night was different.

He has a very good wrist shot. He made Neimi stretch despite shooting from a couple of poor angles.

He also lead our team in shots on goal with 5. One of his shots resulted in the assist that lead to Vanek's goal.

I just don't see how you can criticize any player for shooting the puck. Hell, Lucic foiled Miller from a terrible angle just two nights ago.

You and Jay are straight up wrong about Ennis.

Ennis will be a better player than Roy. Take it to the bank. He's putting up similar numbers to Briere's first full season in the NHL.

When he starts growing into his body, he'll become a better finisher because he'll have more strength and power. He's still just a kid.

Gerbe might not have what it takes to do what he did last night on a consistent basis. I'll give you that.

But you'll both be eating crow about Ennis. Guaranteed.

The only thing bad about Ennis right now is his weight. For god's sake he's only 160 or whatever right now. That's 10 pounds or so heavier than myself.

Once Ennis hits closer to 180 he'll be almost unstoppable with the skill he has. Roy is 184 pounds and it doing great. And I think Ennis has more skill then Roy does.

And he has 14 points in 29 games right now. Stamkos only had 46 points in his first season in the NHL. And Ennis is really close to matching that output of .5 points a game.

ok, ennis is not stamkos. will never be. ennis will be good, but do not use stamkos as a measuring stick on ennis. stamkos was also 18 and out of juniors. ennis is 21 and had a full year about in the minors.

I feel like Ennis' big hindrance is a lack of NHL experience, not his size. Rarely do you see him being ineffective because of his size, but somewhat less rarely he makes dumb NHL plays.

Well yeah, experience is what makes everybody better at pretty much everything. The encouraging thing about Ennis is that he has the confidence to try crafty plays, and he's learning that those plays wont work in the NHL most of the time, but with persistence they will work once in awhile.

He's got a lot of work to do on his game without the puck and I think a heavy slapper would serve him well. Maybe try out a one piece over the summer and add a few MPH.

Gerbe doesn’t have much more time to look good as Tim Connolly, Drew Stafford and Rob Niedermayer all are getting close to coming back.

good. sack up, or go on back to portland. hes been given every chance to succeed. its now or never it seems.

I'd rather see Gerbe than Connolly or Niedermayer to be honest.
I give the Gerbel alot of credit, he can run that rat wheel in the glass cage, he just needs to start using his hands to aim the dam puck to an empty portion of the opponents net and put it home.
