Funny how our nation was founded under God, and now they are trying to remove it from the public view.

It's a terrible thing really.

Separation of church and state, friend. I don't want my government effectively endorsing an invisible, fake daddy figure on me. Ever.

I never said forcing it upon everyone.

But this nation was founded under God, and they are trying to take it away. In all honesty, we shouldn't accept Darwinism either, a theory with so many flaws in it, really?

You should have a choice in school.

The point I was trying to get is about how the founding fathers founded the USA under God, now they are saying God shouldn't be in schools, and we should follow some fake theory about evolution.

Please tell me if Evolution existed, why in the world are Apes still on this planet? Shouldn't humans be the only things left since evolution means change in Animals, and everything started from single-cell organisms? Why are animals and such still around?

And with Atheism, why do you want to live, when the whole Darwinism thing gives we are not here for a purpose, and we are no better than animals.

Just think about it, I'm in now way wanting this topic to get locked or becoming an argument about God or Atheism. That is your choice and I'm not going to try and change your view on it at all. Live your life how you want to, God or no God.

Humans, humanoids were not descended from apes....two separate species. possibly the same 50 million year old ancestors, but different forks on the tree. And unless it is a mean trick played on us by an evil higher power, one which professes to be benevolent, the fossil record of millions of years speaks for itself. So a benevolent higher power plays a malevolent trick by planting false evidence of natural selection to confuse the masses? Sounds like a good story, but hardly believable. But that is just me making sense again....bad me!

You do know the minor genetic differentiations that cause evolution occur in omne organism at a time and often in different areas of the Earth, not massive sweeping changes that completely alter every member of that species in every corner of the globe, right?

Sometimes, I really want to join in on these things, because nobody ever says what I am thinking, mainly because the people on both sides typically only know a little bit about the topic (not that I know very much, but... ehhh, yeah), and a lot of... I don't know. I feel like I would be rude. But I could type a book right now. Useless comment, but if anybody is up for a debate via PM, I suppose, I would be comfortable with that. Not on here, though. The public venue lends itself to anger.

I have no intention of getting this locked, Skyline, and I think this is a good conversation to have, so let's have it.

In response to your question about man and ape, wouldn't that basically infer that there should not be any blue jays, cardinals, chickadees, and sparrows in existence with birds of prey such as the eagle, hawk, and osprey ruling the skies?

Why such anger and condescension towards those who believe in God? I believe in God yet I would never spew such disrespect or hostility towards those who do not.

 Well, I take issue with every single thing that has been said so far from both sides, soooo that would be a book. Not that much has even been said... And I am tired (physically) at the moment. And will probably never join in because honestly I have zero confidence in debating on forums unless I am dealing with, say, akper, if you remember that little child. I will typically only step in if I KNOW someone is wrong, if it is not merely a matter of opinion, and even then 80% of the time I will not say a word, usually because I only care enough to correct if what they believe to be true is about another person, and therefore cruel usually... and when I do, I won't log in for several days because I don't want to see the response of the other person, though I've yet to have anyone respond to me when I do that...

But, yeah. Anyway. I don't know why I posted. Essentially I just want people to consider that there are things others think that they have no idea about... Honestly I have found that 98% of people only read the basest, most inane responses from those who disagree with them. There is a part of human nature that is responsible for that, but that is another topic. I have never seen what I believe and the arguments I would have stated on any incarnation of these boards, whenever this topic comes up... No, what people say on these forums is not what is commonly stated from those who really know what they are talking about but still disagree with you. Ever.

This quote sums it up quite nicely.
"There's nothing I like less than bad arguments for a view that I hold dear." -Daniel Dennett

I would like to join in, but I have no confidence. So, oh well. :P I will just watch, as usual.

I don't have any sort of anger directed towards people who believe in god, save those who try to proselytize me. We've all got our beliefs, and we're free to state them in words of our choosing, some wisely-chosen and some not-so-wisely.

I have no condescension, either. I actually like this debate on evolution that's sprung up, and with the acknowledgment that no one is going to change their minds, we won't have to worry about things getting heated. I hope.

The whole fossil record of millions of years old could be completely false with Carbon-14 dating.

I stumbled upon a very well written article and just read basically all of it, this is something which can disprove about how old the Earth really is. I highly suggest reading it and having a complete open view on it.

Here is the article, it is long, but a very good read about how Carbon-14 dating could be the most inaccurate thing ever.

http://www.answersingenesis.org/article ... -the-bible

And in this Bible study I go to, we have talked about a man who went to try and disprove the bible and completely changed his mind, he was one of the biggest atheists out there and he is a very smart man. I wish I could remember his name, because hearing about how he was before and how he is now is amazing.

You think invisible man in the sky theory is more credible than evolution, really?

You think that not believing in god give someone no will to live, really?

I think that God and Religion are human constructs, and therefore deeply flawed. Some of the worse things imaginable have been done in the name of "God." I think the bible is a wonderous piece of mythology and legend, and a decently entertaining read.

There's no chance in this being civil, because every side has their own beliefs that they will ardently defend that seem like preposterous bullshit to the other side, and that all are equally unprovable. Religious debates turn into the worst kind of flaming because in all actuality, no one has any fucking idea what is really what, and most of it is born out of the necessity to seek comfort in a belief that either A). what we do matters, or B). This life isn't all we have.

You could have a very reasonable discussion about it, as long as you don't flame people and such about their beliefs.

We all are mature enough to have a discussion like this without it turning into an all out flame war.

And none of us are going to try and change the other person's point of view.

But their is noway to disprove the Bible completely or to disprove evolution completely.

Even if their isn't a God, it's the faith people have to believe and it changes their life. They just become at peace with things because of it.

None of us will ever know fully until that day comes when either we die or when the return of Jesus happens. It's simple, you either believe or you don't, you have that faith or you don't.

We just won't know until we are dead.

Fly, not one person until CV came in here attempted to make this into a fight, we were trying to have a civilized discussion about Evolution and Religion, without flames, which no one did.

Thank you, ETC. It seems these threads pop up from time to time, and the people most opposed to opinions being shoved down throats are the ones who do it the most.

I'm a Christian; I think anyone who may be my facebook friend knows that by now. My relationship with Jesus is my driving force and my entire life. However, the separation of Church and State needs to absolutely be upheld. Part of the greatness of God, and this is my opinion now, is the freedom to choose Him, or not to. The best way to do that is with informed decision making, so I would hope that religions of all forms would be taught in school so people can choose what they best identify with, be it atheism, Judaism, Christianity or freaking Mike Grier. If the decision to accept or not accept God is one that is forced, rather than chosen, then there's going to be no truth in that. The same goes for the government; choice is key. You can't mix the two and expect functionality to occur.

Well put Sneaky, that is exactly what I'd like to see also in schools.

But our government is trying to push a Theory down our throats and if we don't accept it, we are wrong according to them, even when we have different beliefs.

I can't think of anything I've learned in a science course that wasn't a theory.
