Vanek has 2 in the past 2 games.

He's way better than Ovechkin.

Haha woo!

But seriously, that power play goals stat always freaked me out when Vanek was ahead of or tied with Ovechkin.

Imagine what he'd do with a powerplay that can consistently get it in, and control it in their own zone...yikes...70 goals? Lol

Seeing how Vanek's 16 goals half of them are PP goals, I think if he was on a number one PP unit in the league, he's have 30 PP goals by himself.

Hah, could you imagine a power play with him Kane and Sharp? Probably would be 50% or better on the PP...Although in a few years if things go right, we could have an Ennis, Adam, and Vanek power play, which could arguably be equally effective.

So how close do you think Vanek will get to 40 goals? And will over or under half of them be on the PP?

I think he'll just miss out on 40 goals this year, but over 35 though.

I'm sticking with my prediction of 50^. He should have 25 right now, to be logical, it wont be easy to find a 60+ goal pace to end up with 50^, but there's no reason to doubt it based on the chances.

The Sabres only had 4 measly minutes of power play time.

Check it out...when the team gets more power play time the teams power play guys play more. Vanek is always going to get around 14 ESM/game. That's how it was when he was 40-40 with a +40 and that's how it's always going to be.

This is why playing in the offensive zone is so critical for a team success, you are more likely to draw calls while attacking.

He was also a third line player that year x-pens. Drury and Briere were getting over 20 minutes of ice time instead.

Whaa? Nuh uh...who was on a line with Vanek?

It was our famous RAV line. Roy, Vanek, and Afinogenov.

Drury was with Hecht and Kotalik(I think?), and Briere was with Pominville and Don't remember????

That's no ordinary 3rd line.

What I remember was

Kotalik / Drury / Zubrus
Hecht / Briere / Pominville
Vanek / Roy / Afinogenov

That was after the Zubrus trade of course. I can't remember who was in his spot before that, but I know announcers would call the Drury line our "top" line.

No way, the Hecht/Briere/Pommer line was the top line. Then it was Zubrus/Drury/Kotalik, followed by Vanek/Roy/Afinogenov.

Before Zubrus, Goose played LW on that line. When Max was injured, Stafford took his place. The fourth line was a hodge podge of Paille, Peters, Goose (when he came back), Mair, and Kaleta.

Now that we have the facts, what should the best lines have been?

Vanek-Briere-Afinogenov
Roy-Drury-Pominville
Hecht/Zubrus-Kotalik
Mair-Gaustad-Kaleta

Oh I know, that's why I said "top". It was probably Pierre McGuire who said that. Remember his man crush on Drury?

Flip Pommer and Max, and also flip Mair and Kaleta, and I like it.

(Mair is a C/RW, not a C/LW)
