Does this save Timmy's lack of points this season? No.
Does this mean we resign him tomorrow? No.
However, he did play well.

Key shot block on the last PP for Montreal in regulation. He skated hard on the back-check.
I know that points win games, but I don't believe they completely define a player. Moreover, I liked Timmy's play last night, and I've harped on him this entire season for un-inspired play.

Thoughts?

...and a crap game against Toronto. Couldn't win a draw and directly responsible for both goals against.

We don't pay Tim Connolly to back-check as his primary skill.

And at this point I rather see Adam and Byron than timmy and neids... at least we can use the excuse that they are young and learning....

Connolly had a fracked up game against Toronto. He lost his balls afterward. Screw him.

He did set up Ennis one on one with the goalie, if he scored it might have changed the entire game. It was a real nice pass.

To be honest with you. I would rather see Connolly, Grier, Neidermayer, Rivet and possibly Butler all gone and bring up the youngster's. But that's just me!

Connolly has had a positive influence on Stafford's and Ennis' surging play. If they are making a run for the playoffs, I don't think they can afford to dump TC and lose the chemistry they've got going on that line. That line has been far and away the most dangerous line lately.

I'd rather see them make a serious run at the playoffs and lose TC to free agency afterward, even if they don't get anything for him.

Correction. TC is bringing down that line. It's been mostly Stafford and Ennis. TC turns the puck over every other shift.

He's played well overall since the all-star break. You don't break up your best line when your team is on a roll.

I kind of agree, the problem I have is we are so weak at C.... we already need one C... you move Timmy, thats 2 C.... Im not sure if we can find one.... so where are we going to find 2?

But i dont think the team is built to go far in the play-offs, again to weak at C... so do you just get what you can for Timmy, possibly a first, based on other deals around the league, and run with Byron or Adam... maybe find a C in the trade market?

The Sabres have been a terrific road team this season, and not very good at all on home ice. Connolly has played very well on home ice. On an 82 game pace for 61 points on Buffalo ice. His time in Buffalo may be nearing it's end, but I expect him to close that chapter of his career with some good hockey.

I have noticed this season that Timmy has been doing a great job of getting back on defense. I would venture to say he has good value as a two way center, which is not something I thought I would say about him.

I wouldn't be too upset if we get stuck with him for the rest of the season. I could see why nobody would want to offer a ton of value in trade, and besides that, what are we supposed to do at center when he's gone? I think Roy's injury may have designated Connolly our rental player for the year.

Here is my take DieHardFan I would be moving Connolly in a heartbeat and call up the youngsters. In all honesty do you actually think this team can make a run when the 06-07 team couldn't get us there. Don't get me wrong I would love for them to make the playoffs but this team won't make it that far. Not enough fire power. Start the rebuild and get what you can for the guy instead of losing him for nothing.

The Sabres did make a run, they got to the ECF. If the Flyers lose Briere, Pronger, and Carter are they a better team than the Sabres are right now? I don't think so, and Pronger is already hurt. The league has grown closer together over the past few years, the cap has forced the hand of every GM. If the Sabres get in, wont they have the most talented goalie of the 8 EC teams? I think so. And if I'm not mistaken, Roy is not done for the entire year. I say ante up and go for it, the way the Sabres keep fighting should make you feel good about their chances, not every team in the league would respond as well to the same kind of adversity.

I think Boston might in Tuukka Rask even though he choked out of last year's playoffs.

See I disagree the sabres made a run because they had a talented team not like this years club. This years squad lacks firepower. And I believe Roy is done for the year. Plus I don't know if I would call Miller the best of the 8 EC teams especially in the playoffs. Unload the trash and build for the next year or the year after. This team isn't good enough to make it to the cup.

The Sabres have the 6th best goals per games in the Eastern Conference and the 9th best defense. If they make the right moves by the TDL, Miller gets hot, and Roy gets healthy....

Roy is not coming back this year, even if they make the Cup finals.

Wouldn't he be woefully out of shape if he tried? More of a liability, I would think.

That was the case with Forsberg. Being out to long and not getting back into competitive condition can do some damage.

It's one thing if you're in 11th place and 12 points out of a playoff spot, quite another if you're in 8th (okay, I say they're in 8th because they have 2 games in hand vs Carolina), and have the chance to move up even further. You don't blow up your team or your best line when a playoff birth is a strong possibility. And a run through the playoffs is entirely possible for a team that gets or stays hot at the right time. It happens not all that infrequently.

To say you're going to start building for next year when your team looks like they'll make the playoffs this year makes no sense to me. I'm not saying they're going to the SCF, but it's all about the playoffs.

If you want to win later, you need to win now. I rather make moves now that will allow us wo win games to enter the playoffs. Afterward, we will make additional moves in teh offseason that will allow us to win more in years ahead.
