I agree with adam in the sense that i dont like that they havent even contacted his agent yet. not calling darcy a bad gm by any means, just saying i dont like he hasnt been contacted yet.
but i also agree with tom that maybe they are waiting for the ownership change. we dont know whats going on.

Solid points there, Aaron.

In all honesty, seeing as Hamilton's the one that picked this up, I wouldn't shocked if this was one of WGR's "well, let's see what Monty's agent says. Oh now we have a story to stir up shit" shticks.

Like I said, I wouldn't be thrilled about Monty leaving, but I wouldn't exactly be really pissed off about it.

i don't know. i'd say it's pretty imperative to know how much your employees want to be paid next year. i'd certainly keep that information in the books if i was a gm. but then again if i was a gm expecting to be let go in three months, i probably wouldn't care as much.

I don't know. I'd like to keep Monty, but at the same time, we have so much depth at defense that we could probably live without a guy that's exiting his prime.

Who's our depth? Rivet? Butler? Some guys in Portland?

Unless the deal is pretty sweet, I wouldn't move Montador. Granted the coast to play this trade deadline has been pretty ridiculously high thus far.

Moulson and Byfuglien are a couple players that are imperative to the team. While Montador has played well and I'd like him to stay for another two years, he's not a lynchpin to the d-corps that can't be replaced. Morrisonn is probably the guy to fill his void next season, with Weber stepping up into the player I always thought he would be, and Myers and Leopold rounding out the top four.

I prefer to land a bigger name d-man with Rivet's money (one that is actually healthy and plays), so that probably means no room for Montador, even though I'd like to keep him and stack a solid six d-corps. I just doubt the front office will put that as a priority, especially right now with an ownership change in the process and Myers needing a pay raise in two summers.

I've said it before but I'll put it down again. I want a very good/great d-corps to build on. I'd like to see...

(new guy, maybe Ehrhoff)-Myers
Leopold-Montador (or if he leaves, Wisniewski)
Morrisonn-Weber
Sekera

Montador was out for two weeks with an injury. It is hard to negotiate with a player who is unsure he will be traded during that time.

I'd rather see Montador traded instead of him being signed and seeing him suck after his new contract.

If Montador is to be traded, he should not be the first.

Connolly and Rivet are the first to see their asses leave.

Do you, Tom?

Would you like me to go find all of the contract extensions that have been signed this season, Tom, thanks to proactive GM's who investigate their players' salary demands early enough to see if they'll fit in the long term picture?

Answer me this; How can you know whether or not a guy will fit into your long term plans without even checking to see what his salary demands are?

No talks? Not a single email or phone call?

How does that NOT bother you?

Basically The only player so far to be extended has been Bfuglyien that hasn't involved a trade.

When the fuck are they going to learn?

I don't know, but I hope the learning process doesn't involve Drew Stafford.

I think it's perfectly sane to be upset that they are dallying with their re-signings again. We all know what it has cost us in the past, and that's no secret. On the other hand, with an ownership change, this situation may be different. When a guy is 32, and has played for you for a bit, I don't think you need to further evaluate his play to determine his value. The numbers and such should be maybe 80% crunched for next year defensively. Many teams already have 6 under contract for next year.

Stafford has nothing though. They can wait all day to sign Stafford, he's a RFA and can't leave this team without the Sabres approving it. All he has is arbitration, and based on his past performances he won't get that much.

Unless he's offered a contract like Vanek was.

I'd like to think we learned from that.

you'd think we would have learned about signing players earlier than after the season, too

We don't have anyone worth re-signing right now.

Then we take the picks and move on from him. If he gets a contract like that, then that GM is a fucking moron and should be shot in a firing squad.

He doesn't have 43 goals and 41 assists though.
