6. We would stop deforestation(for paper) because hemp is a stronger and cheaper material to cultivate. (We are currently the only G20(the worlds financial elite) country that does not have a market for hemp, which is one of the worlds most profitable products because of its strenghth.... its the worlds strongest natual fiber.
7. Tobacco use would most likely be cut down because I'm sure many people would rather smoke a joint than smoke a ciggarette. Also Yes, smoking Marijuana can be bad for your lungs.... but a small purchase of a vaporizer completely nullifies this problem.

and most importantly:
8. If Cannabis users are now going to the store or the pharmacy to pick up the plant, they do not have to worry about getting caught up with the wrong pepole and they are far less likely to come into contact with the hard drugs that cause problems.

So basically legalization/decriminalization/medical legalization would be a win win for everyone.

I don't know what amazes me more. The fact there was funding to have researchers find this out, or the fact that they are proposing "Safe"rooms. How Safe can smoking crack be for an individual????

This needs further explanation.

Because of its highly addictive nature - especially when coming off a high; crack addicts will do anything to score some more crack. This includes prostitution by users, women AND men alike.

HIV is, as we all know, spread through an exchange of bodily fluids. While the utensils for crack are often a high risk device for spreading hepatitis, they, when used orally, are not a risk for HIV, as the HIV virus is not spread through ingestion. Yes, a stomach ulcer could "possibly" allow for HIV in the system - but it is unlikely.

Sharing needles would be high risk, obviously.

I used to work as a drug and alcohol counselor. I am not an expert on HIV, but I have training in the area. I didn't read the whole article; so if I'm being redundant, I apologize.

Thanks, I was curious how one could get HIV, as crack is inhaled not injected, and saliva isn't the kinda bodily fluid it transfers through.

What's that saying? "Why are all the foods that taste good illegal?" or something like that. I'm pretty sure that's how that goes.

We were talking about hard drugs like crack and the horrible things surrounding these substances. This brought my mind to think of ways to get rid of hard drug use. Legalizing Marijuana would help eliminate contact with these hard drugs (If you would have read my post fully and efficiently you would have realized this).

Maybe it was a bad idea to add extra points to my argument. It is just something I am pationate about. Sorry for any confusion.

At least I have an opinion on something politically. So you're stereotyping me because of something I enjoy and am passionate about?

I am in my second year of a five year Masters program at D'youville College. I am going for history education with a minor in philosophy. I have a 3.78 GPA and NEVER dropped under a 95 in highschool. I work for my education and have very little family support in my life. I feel that I have a head on my shoulders; however, as I have lived a pretty productive life despite a rough upbringing with no father. I currently live with my girlfriend, and at the young age of 18 and 19 we support ourselves, working overnights so we can go to school in the day. Sorry marijuana is something that I like to enjoy after I difficult day of school and work. I would much rather open my mind to things and look at my problems critically using Marijuana than forgetting about them and drowning my sorrows in alcohol. Before you judge get the background story.

What you typed is ignorant and stereotyipcal and I am sorry you feel that way about people who use Marijuana.

Ok, so if anyone was joking I apologize, but I am really attempting to end all of the bad stereotypes and misguided judgements about marijuana. Before I knew all of my facts I bought into all the lies that were being dished out also.

An informed citizenry is the basis of any good democracy. What we have right now, surrounding this issue, is a misinformed citizenry. What bringing up previous(and current) stereotypes does, even if it is "only a forum," is set the argument back 20 years for no good reason.

If Caucasians continue discriminate against blacks through stereotyping the race issue will never get any better and the African Americans will continue to live in oppression. The same goes for any minority, group, issue, etc...

I dig that. Before I stopped smoking because I was just too busy to sit down with a bowl and hit it (50+ hours a week job and fatherhood), I was kicking ass and taking names at living, working, and being a functioning member of society.

I love this post because it shows that people who smoke/have smoked are still functional members of society. The people who make me mad are the "potheads." The ones that don't realize that there is more to life than marijuana. Family, Work, Friends, Hobbys, Hockey, Life in General.... these things all come first. I would not give anyone of these things up for a plant.

You may be an exception....there are those, possibly a majority who dont enjoy the same successes, but rather cognitive processes suffer as does their quality of life as they become chronically lethargic. You may be reverse stereotyping based on your own (and possibly a few equally fortunate colleges) experiences. Just suggesting......
