Franks and butter alone don't cut it for me.

I add a little bit of garlic powder, salt and pepper, honey, and sprite.

I think I'm now going to make some tonight.

Oil type: Peanut...but it's expensive. Veg oil is cheaper.
Temp: 375
How long to cook:11-15 minutes depending on crispy preference
Ratio of Franks to Butter:I use a 12 oz bottle and one stick of butter (8 Tbs) but more or less depending on heat preference
Best wings to use: i can't find the big ones out here so whatever I can get
Anything else I need to consider? Well, I use pepper, salt, garlic powder and a shot of lemon juice but it's all to taste so no measurements. Let your wings drip dry in the basket after frying to get them as dry as you can which will get the sauce to stick better and be less greasy. Just add enough sauce to coat the wings not drown them so they stay crispy. Start eating and punch anyone near you that asks for ranch dressing.

There is one place in Portland that gets them right. It's called Fire on the Mountain (The only thing I don't like about the place, a name referencing the grateful dead), and they do traditional Buffalo style, as well as specialty sauces, some of which have been mentioned already in this thread: terryaki, Jamaican jerk, rasberry habanero, Bourbon chipotle and more. Purists might not like the exotic styles, but they do traditional Buffalo style the right way too. They offer mild, medium, hot, extra-hot, and El Jefe, their version of suicide. The El Jefe is no joke. I can only eat about 7 or 8 of those before I enter another astral plane from the spice. Then of course the worst part comes later, when the fire is no longer on the mountain, but down in the valley if you know what I mean. I stick to their extra-hot usually.

In Buffalo, most any place does wings well. Duff's and Gabriel's Gate have already been mentioned, but I'd like to add La Nova as an honorable mention here, mainly because they deliver.

La Nova wings are definitely one of the best in Buffalo. Mothers has some GREAT wings as well, I think they're up there as one of the best... Man I just love everything about Mothers.

To me, Duffs is the best and I have found no comparison. The combination of the great wings (hot is usually the best, as suicide is a little too spicy for me) good fries (a huge bucket of em) and a small tub of blue cheese makes it a great experience.

Also it's a great place to go out on any random night and a quick bite to eat. Prices are fair and on most nights wings will come within about 10 minutes of ordering, fries usually coming much quicker.

I don't think Duff's has the best wings, but it's an awesome place to go with friends and just devour wings and fries. Always a great time.

Next time I'm back we should do a "wing" crawl Phil. Seeing as I never hung out in Buffalo you could be my gut busting adventure guide.

Argh, 3 am and I want wings.

Duffs is good - not my favorite, but they have good wings. Bar Bill in East Aurora probably has the best IMO. For cheap wings we usually hit up this little hole-in-the-wall on Sweethome called Audubon North. They are good wings. But yeah, even most pizzerias are good - Picasso's has decent wings too. Stay away from the Anchor Bar. Just gave it a second try the other night, and this time it will definitely be my last.

I told the owner that the next time I beat his team curling he has to give us free wings for a month. :p

A lot of people are surprised at the size (insert joke here) of Duffs (in Amherst).

To me, the fact they haven't really commercialized or expanded (majorly) allows us to keep calling it a Buffalo entity.

Have not tried Anchor bar, btw. I have never been with a group of people that have suggested going there. I've heard mixed reviews. Look forward to trying it this summer.

I've only been to Anchor Bar twice, once when I was a freshman in college and a huge group of my friends/classmates from out of town wanted to go, and during the World Juniors I went because I was curious to see the activity over the year with all the people in town for the tournament.
