Aren't they just going to buy him out? Or would they put him through waivers now so his contract doesn't count towards next year's cap then?

Buying him out would put his salary on the cap even though he's gone. Burying him in OKC would keep his contract in place, but it'd be off the books and wouldn't count toward the cap.

I thought we were talking about Souray? I think the islanders will snatch him up, but there's about 8 other teams that would love to have him. Columbus really could use him.

Oh, you mentioned Connolly and I got confused, failed reading comprehension.

OKC?

But that's what I thought, it would erase his cap hit but not his salary.

Hold on, no one said that. We said we didn't want him at his $4.5M($5.4M cap hit) current price. There's rumblings that EDM might put him up through re-entry waivers, though, and if that happened he'd only cost half. In THAT case, I'd do it immediately!

Ok, I didn't know what team it was, I'm not good with the AHL ones.

I would do this immediately as well. So I hope to God that they do indeed put him on re-entry waivers.

I wasn't referring to this message board not wanting him, but the 29 GMs who didn't grab him up!

If he goes through re-entry SOMEBODY will take him or I will just freak out because that would be too weird. I mean half of his cap hit is 2.7m/year, that's a real bargain for even half a season and playoffs worth of Souray.

EDIT: and he's only got 2 years left on his deal so he will still only be 35. Fits absolutely perfectly with the Sabres long term cap flexibility!

I'll be very excited to see him join the Sabres.

If he does hit re-entry waivers, I'm right there with ya on wanting him here.

LeBrun says Edmonton has no interest at all in putting Souray through re-entry waivers.

Yea, and then a couple of talking heads said they're thinking about it a day after LeBrun said that.

They don't want to be forced to have 2.7m on their cap hit for two years because they will lose him.

Somehow this seems better to me than paying him $5.5 a season to play in the A....

Except for the fact that his $4.5M salary doesn't count toward the cap at all if he's in the A ($5.4M is only his cap hit, I found out)

I don't want Souray, if the worst team in all of the NHL didn't want him I don't want him at all.
