Well the Sabres have to re-sign Kaleta regardless, don't they?

Arbitration is dumb.

No...

I believe so.... because it is team driven... Kaleta has to accept on either a one year or two year deal.... but thats just my understanding... the Sabres can also get a deal done before the hearing... which is the option I am hoping for... Id like a happy Patty K for 2010/11... and if he doesn't get the number he wants will he be happy? He is one guy I would not mind over paying a little bit just to make him happy... i love what he brings to the team...

It's dumb because when does a player EVER get less money? It's always how much more than the contract offered by the team. It's all or nothing and binding, which is dumb because some spend happy panel of arbiters tell you how you should spend your money.

Not really, you think Briere wasn't worth the 5 million he was awarded?

It also puts egos in check sometimes. The team gives the arbitrator am offer, the p[layer does the same, normally it's happy medium between the two prices.

Even though they are RFA's, they aren't the biggest worry and priority, they have no bargaining stance right now and Darcy was smart to make sure an offer sheet isn't thrown to Patty K. even if you think he should have been signed July 2nd of last year.

I feel like we should have signed these guys months ago. They aren't high-talent players looking for big money, just give them a fair deal and be done with it.

This is how I feel about this as well. Unless they are asking for more than 1.25 million a season. Neither one has done anything yet to warrant a big money contract.

Although I agree, if either one of the two are to receive a payout of that kind of coin, I'd give it to Pattymouth hands down. Besides Miller pulling amazing saves out of his arse seemingly on a night by night basis, Patty is our energy guy and can provide an emotional boost simply by being a human cannon ball. Flipside of that, though, is that style of play will earn you a quick trip to Retirement Island if not used wisely. Hrmmm

I don't see what the big deal is or why this is upsetting some people.

Because people are using it as an excuse to rip on Darcy since he didn't sign them the first day they were eligible for extension, yet not a single solitary one of us knows what goes on behind closed doors.

90% of RFAs don't get extended ahead of time anyway, and a I fail to see why K&K should be any different.

Why would you sign ahead of time as an RFA? You sign in January, and then have a big run down the stretch, and a good playoffs and now you're signed to about 1/2 of what your open market value is. All RFA's do this. Think about the deal Byfuglian or however the hell you spell his name got. He had a stretch of 20 good games, and a solid playoffs and his value is about 6x what it was beforehand.

This isn't a Darcy blunder, it's agents looking out for the best interest of their clients.

Everyone knows the Protoss would win. An Arbiter's energy sword can't do shit against two High Templars that merge into an Archon.

"We burn..."

And Dragoons even have dual forearm energy blades, compared to an Arbiter's single energy sword.

Aw damn I meant that too. I was google-ing dragoons and must have mistyped. Don't question my starcraft credentials. I am the Executor.

Here's an interesting question...what if Kennedy is awarded something like what MacArthur got? Do we walk and try to sign Stempniak, or Morrison?

They could each be had for around 2.5M where if Kennedy gets closer to 3; seems like an obvious no brainer. Kennedy isn't an excellent special teams player, where each of those guys adds something to the PP, and Morrison adds to the PK as well, not to mention both are more productive.

Kennedy will be 25 years old this year, and entering his prime; so he may have some "potential" left, but he's pretty much the player he's going to be. Both of those guys have more experience, and a track record of scoring over 26 points per year.

Just some food for thought

No way I'd sign Tim Kennedy to $2.4M a year. If he gets close to $3M, that arbitrator has excellent drugs he needs to share.

I guess we'll find out by Thursday what the arbitrator will rule.

2.4 for Kennedy? Fuck that. He works hard, but not worth more than 1.5M on a good day. Unless there's more of this regularly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yba-exnn9pQ&feature=fvst He should never get more than that 1-1.5M, and that's probably being generous.

Kennedy is 24 years old, and he won't sniff anything close to 2 mil per...1.5 mil at best.
