That's not very reasonable for you to say.

Especially considering that those who take losses and plan to sell could not give two shits and let the team leave buffalo.

Tom is operating the club in a manner that ensures it can stay put. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Owning a sports team is a "vanity asset", an asset thats looks good for your image but not in your ledgers. Sports owners get into the business to win because taking a loss is more common than not. Golisano operates the team to try and make money. He's in this business for the wrong reasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad kept the Sabres here. But it's not enough at this point. He needs to give two shits.

whats the point of having a team if it will never win?

I do understand what Darcy says about defense being the position we needed to upgrade. I mean honestly Kennedy isn't really a loss...he was just from Buffalo which made him more special to us all. I know, everyone's mad about the self-imposed cap...yeah, yeah.
My only question is, why were they so worried about paying Kennedy 1m when they just signed Leopold to 3m, and Gaustad, who is a 4th line grinder is making 2.3m? Gaustad has his areas of expertise, but Kennedy I think has a bigger upside. But they won't sign Tim to 1m? GOOSE MAKES 2.3!!!

We need a forward. One. Decent. Forward. Then this team would be complete.

The difference here is the Maple Leafs are a license to print money, and they always will be.

Mike, that's not Quinnisano's reasoning. Their's is, what's the point of having a team if it will never make money? Golisano won't sell it because not even he's dumb enough to incur the PR nightmare of selling the team to someone who will move it, but he (this time meaning Quinnisano) won't do what it takes to win the Cup even if it means a fiscal loss.

It never, ever had a single fucking thing to do with Kennedy being from Buffalo.

Also, the Goose example is inadmissible because the Sabres and a different mindset at that point and the league itself had a completely different mindset surrounding free agency.

We agree on one point and disagree on another. I agree with you that there's no point in owning a sports team if you aren't going to try to win, which is why I want someone who gives a shit about this team and this city to buy them, keep them here, and throw piles of money at Regier. I don't agree with you that the Sabres are trying to win. The Sabres (team) try to win night in and night out with the troops given. The Sabres (organization) would rather pinch pennies and hope for a miracle rather than manufacture one with a sneaky free agent acquisition or a shrewd trade.

Leopold is an upgrade over Tallinder and Morrisonn is an upgrade over Lydman. Niedermayer is the true 3rd line center the team needed, relegating Goose to the 4th line where he'll excel. But the top six, outside of the addition of Ennis which we anticipated, remain the same. Know how ownership would show they want to win at all costs? By publicly coming out and saying "We're taking the reins off of Regier so he can make. It. Happen." so he can trade for Neal's rights (por ejemplo). This whole internal budget bullshit only shows that they treat the team like any other old business, where the bottom line is all that matters. Except in sports, the bottom line ought to take a (reasonable) back seat to winning.

I honestly feel sorry for darcy. He always takes the flack. Some of it deserved (bad trades ie Torres), but when it comes to free agents it is usually the purse holders.

I can already see Darcy before the news conference. "Damn boss, can't we spend up to the cap? It is hell having to explain to the faithful fans we are letting them down again".

So basically, we aren't getting a new player to replace Kennedy and Ennis will take his roster spot? Why not just send Stafford through waivers and if no one claims him, then we just buy him out. I don't really care for Kennedy much but he's better than Stafford.......

Stafford's buy out would have costed more and if this is a decision based on money than buying out Stafford wouldn't work. Besides Darcy loves Stafford and he will be given every chance he needs this year to breakout.

I still dont understand this "budget" situation, we have over 5-6m in cap room (idk correct me if im wrong) so why would we need money?

Big time lurker signing in to say THIS SUCKS DICK.

Yesterday I got all excited because we signed a hard nosed, physical, stay at home D man.

Today, this bullshit.

I really really really hope there is something in the works but I highly doubt it.

I'm no expert, but if the Sabres spent the other 7 million and made it to even the second round of the playoffs and therefore played even an extra two games at home...wouldn't they recoup that 7 million plus some? What I'm saying is ...like any other business you have to spend money to make money... no?

I know. Wouldn't it seem that if they won a cup or got that far, they would make MORE money?

As a whole, we're stronger than last year. Darcy said that ownership set the budget, and that to spend more, he'd have to talk to them. I think we're in a "Good enough" place. We're not going to come out and win 10 straight, but we'll have enough to make the playoffs. And with that much cap room, we'll have the money to bring in any missing piece(s) we may have.

After calming down a little bit, I'm strangely comfortable with where we're at. Almost excited. I'm not going to get my hopes up for another trade, but I am going to get them up for this upcoming season.
