So, with your exposure to Cabela's, would it be a bomb-ass anchor to canalSIDE?

you could plop a cabelas in a field with nothing for 50 miles, and people will flock. i think it would be awesome. i was actually thinking about that on my drive past it.

wanna know its impact on the village?

its pretty cool.

What he said.

Cabela's is not to be trifled with.

However, I've personally never seen them attach their property to another or include it in a wider development.
They stand on their own.

Still, I think it's worth a shot. After all, it still would be solitary (an entity unto itself), it would just be surrounded by something.

you know what would be cool? a great lakes aquarium. feature all the fish and stuff of the great lakes. not saying make it huge, just a smaller, cool side attraction.

I think something like that was suggested, but not really pursued. I know there are to be a couple of underwater walking tubes that would have connected CanalSide Center to the Bass Pro, but nothing was ever strongly suggested as to having an aquarium.

I don't think maybe an aquarium, but more like a Great Lakes biosphere. Don't just include fish, include the water fowl, aquatic mammals (musk rats and beavers), tree and land dwelling mammals, and regular birds, too. It could even be branded as an extension of the Buffalo Zoo or something like that.

This a perfect example why Buffalo has issues with getting shit done.....It's definitely not the community, its the leaders who are causing roadblocks.
Quote:
2 On Your Side reached Councilman Michael LoCurto who chairs Council's Community Development Committee which was working on a community benefits agreement regarding the project. He says that agreement represented more than 40 community groups which felt they should be part of the process. As LoCurto puts it "I think that you know the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation and unfortunately the Mayor is forgetting that this is a public waterfront and that is public money that is being spent." Are you serious, 40 groups needed to have a say??????

We also reached Councilman David Rivera who says Council has a legitimate role in reviewing such projects and land transfers. Rivera says "I think that's us doing our due diligence...making sure we that we look everything over. We don't want to make mistakes. We don't want to rush into anything. I don't think we're being obstructionists. I think we all have the same interest in wanting to see the best possible projects are the best use for that land there." due diligence...don't want to rush into anything!!!! 9 years, 9 friggin years this has been going one. I hate see what his idea of a good time frame for a project to be done...15-20 years????

The whole 'community benefit agreement' thing is fucking bullshit. They have fucking 10 person BLOCK CLUBS getting face time in front of the Common Council whining that there should be no jobs created on the waterfront unless they pay $15 an hour and only hire people from Buffalo. What business would want to come here only to be told how much to pay and who to hire? It's nonsense that these small, insignificant groups whose mission last year was cleaning up vacant lots are all of a sudden given a voice in multi-million dollar commercial development.

Yea, this story is about 3 weeks old. Maybe a month. HSBC wants to move out of the tower into a new building that can consolidate a few sites under one roof.

If standard Buffalo politics fuck this up, the city is in a bad, bad way.

Scratch that, first mention of them wanting to move out of the tower: May 21st

Second mention, this time specifically bringing up the Webster block: July 20th

so, they vacate the tower, and build a new tower (likely)... so thatll help the waterfront, but what will they do with the tower? condos? mixed use building?

hmmmmm.......

so, the tower is 38 stories tall.

20 stories of office, 18 stories of condos/hotel suites.

maybe the top could be an observation deck.

Not so much a tower than a shorter, wider complex.

And yea, I could see a bunch of smaller companies moving in. Plus, I do believe there is already an observation deck.
