Kind of makes ya feel dirty, doesn't it. :?

Granted, there's no rule stating that a player CAN'T wear that number, but wow.

I have no idea why people feel this way about numbers. They aren't magical or some religious hockey relic. They're just fucking numbers. Who gives a shit?

So, if a Sabres player was suddenly mauled to death by bears, and the team retired his number, and the next day some slack jawed equipment manager gave an AHL call up that players number, you wouldn't care at all? Not even a little?

Is the number retired by the league? No? Then fuck it, who cares. It's a free world and there's no sense in getting butthurt over a free number.

In all honesty, it's just a number.

Sorry, but that is just dumb. If the league doesn't think Mario's number needs to be retired for every team, then whats the big deal?

Also, your pens fan is showing.

I thought you said my penis is showing, but there's no webcam under the table! :)

The only person that cares less about this than me is Lemieux, but I guarantee that you are all hypocrites when it comes to the "it's just a number" argument. Because being mauled by bears is real, and it can happen at any time.

Um.....it's a different team. That number only means something to Pittsburgh fans. Just as certain numbers only mean something in the context of Sabres fans and Sabres history. Now if this was a Pittsburgh player that got that number then I would understand....but it's not.

Except no Pittsburgh player will ever wear that number, so it's a moot point.

Many years ago the after the retirement of Gretzky's 99 the NHL was talking about retiring the following numbers 11,22,33,44,55,66,77,88. Why? I have no clue

I wrote out a big reply, but my phone is shit, so all I'm going to say is this... I don't get upset when I see other guys wearing the #16. I mean, i think league wide number retirements are just dumb period.

And also, webcam under the desk? You must love chatroulette.

if that bear-mauled player's number was retired, said slack jawed equipment manager wouldn't be able to give out said bear-mauled player's number... Lemieux's number IS NOT retired by the league there could be 29 players in the league wearing 66 and it doesn't and shouldn't matter...

best guess would be to honor:
11 - Gilbert Perreault
22 - Adam Mair
33 - Mark Astley
44 - Alexei Zhitnik
55 - Jochen Hecht
66 - Gino Odjick - the only person not affieliated with buffalo so it seems fair
77 - Chris Gratton
88 - Patrick Kane - because he's from buffalo

Because the NHL LOVES the sabres
