I thought it was passably entertaining. HBO's production crew did a good job putting everything together and getting some good in-game shots.
As for the teams themselves, I thought it was telling how little they focused on Crosby. It just goes to so you how boring and personality-less he actually is as a human being. I bet they have tons of extra footage of him that is just boring as hell and unsuitable for TV. Bylsma needs to learn from Boudreau to be more entertaining.
Told you, and Crosby haters like yourself will surely be satisfied by the simple fact that he's in it! It's can't fail television, hockey fans either love or hate Ovie and Sid.
People who don't even like hockey, will love this show and will think about hockey differently for sure. This is a huge step for hockey! Not only is ESPN going to want exclusive coverage back, but they will probably try to produce reality shows about it themselves! And although their production will likely suck ass, it's still potentially entertaining!
I don't hate Crosby, I think he's the best player in the league. I just think its pretty apparent at this point that he isn't interesting by any definition of the word. You have to admit for a league that wants to shove Crosby down our throats, there was surprisingly little of him on 24/7 and what parts there were, weren't the least bit entertaining. Personally, in rooting for a player, I have to like who they are as a guy (as best I can tell) in addition to how they play on the ice, and I would never be a fan of Crosby, even if he were a Sabre.
I don't think 24/7 is going to be the driving force behind ESPN wanting a piece of hockey again. The Winter Classic has been going on for four years now and it still hasn't happened. If the Winter Classic was ever going to do that, it was going to be after the first Classic which had the largest crowd and the best atmosphere in the most passionate American hockey city.
