Overpayment for a guy with worse stats than Kessel. Burkie made out like a bandit.

Finding ways to lose, yes.

Yeah philly dropped the ball here. They overpayed a ton for a guy who is on a crappy contract, and isn't more than 45-50 points per year.

I don't get how 3 million a year is "crappy" contract? Versteg can actually skate and he's got 97 points over the prior 2 seasons (including a 53 point season) and should easily put up another 45 this season. A lot of wingers get paid the same or a lot more and give back a lot less.

He's a good playoff performer too.

On a side note, I'm not attacking you or anything but quite a few posters on this board seem obsessed with draft picks. :) I mean, IF the Flyers win the Cup (which is their plan) you're talking about the 30th pick overall, 1 player removed from a 2nd rounder and the actual 2nd round pick they traded will be 1 pick removed from a 3rd rounder. I think we all know the FLyers have a good chance of getting to the ECF, so the worst case scenario might be the 26th overall pick.

And now that they have Versteg, who's to say they wont dump Zherdov for an even better 1st round pick?

I hate the Craps, Cryers, Rags, Boohooins, and Wed Rings. Okay that last one was weak.

I'm rarely obsessed with draft picks, if I could I'd trade them all for RFAs already proven they can make the NHL, but my feeling is giving up a 1st and a 3rd for a guy who was a 5th round pick 7 years ago, has never put up over 55 points, and doesn't add much of a physical presence just doesn't sit well with me. They could have waited until the deadline and only given up 1 pick, and possibly have been able to clear a little more capspace that day. Now their backs are against the cap, should a better deal present its self, the Flyers are out of it, because they overpaid, and took on 3M in cap.

Example being:

Zherdev and a 1st would have cleared nearly enough money to land Brad Richards

Brad Richards is goign to get 7+ million on the UFA market this summer, so that example pretty much goes against the point you were trying to make. I also am not sure a players value goes down at the deadline, more likely it goes up, considerably. The deadline is when everybody trying like hell to get something done and bidding head to head with each other. The Flyers got a good, affordable, playoff tested winger and for all intents and purposes a 2nd and 3rd rounder.

They made another step towards winning the Cup, that's how it's done. They aren't rebuilding, the time is now.

The best part about this trade is that the Pens aren't getting Versteeg. Time for Ray Ray to pony up for Kovalev. Haha. They will be very lucky to get home ice advantage. One win in their last 5, and it was in OT(to the Kings 2-1;Marky actually won em one). Outscored 22-8 during that stretch. Anyone else loving it??

There's definitely blood in the water, and the Flyers can smell it. Shero is a good GM, and I think he's wise enough to know that the can't keep selling what's left of the farm. In short, they are fucked.

I don't think the Caps have a good chance either, the East is there for the taking.

Thats a lot for Versteeg...well, guess the Flyers are desperate to buy in their Cup or Bust quest
