Bob Sweeney was a waiver pick up for Buffalo from Boston. He put up 21 goals his first season in Buffalo, but failed to put up 20 combined in the next two seasons here.

Joe Juneau averaged a point a game over his first four seasons, including a 102 point season. Never put up those type of numbers again. He was a Rocket Scientist (sort of) with a degree from RPI in rocket technology - or something in that area.

I think the deal may have slightly favored Boston. That pick will probably never produce the player Paille is, but it is a move that I felt Darcy needed to make. Boston really didn't need him, but I'm sure they weren't gonna let him get away for a late 4; high 5th rounder. They stepped up, and got a quality hockey player for very little(when I'm sure others were offering peanuts; claiming cap woes the reason for the crap offer). Not to turn this into an I told you so thread, but I said Paille's 19 goals and high shoot% that year were a fluke to bad goal-tending on long slap shots(they were mesmerized he tried to shoot from there, and adjusted after watching tape). At any rate Boston received a hard-working, loyal forward who now has "something to prove"(especially cuz his time to prove it may be limited). I still think Danny has potential, because normally they learn defense last, but he learned it first. The game is becoming more cerebral, and guys like him become more valuable because of that. /text wall

Oh ya thanx for doing the homework. Howie still busted 'em on one. Should E-mail them for a correction(tell them to go to Sabrejunkie.com for accuracy checks). LOL

I'm gonna go ahead and say that Darcy will most likely use this 3rd round pick in a trade package.

What can 3rd and 4th round picks bring to a club? Well, we have...

Butler: 4th Rd
Gaustad: 7th Rd
Kaleta: 6th Rd
MacArthur: 3rd Rd
Sekera: 3rd Rd
Kennedy: 6th Rd
Rivet: 3rd Rd
Miller: 5th Rd
Lalime: 6th Rd
Lydman: 4th Rd
Mair: 4th Rd
Paetsch: 7th Rd
Grier: 9th Rd
Montador: Undrafted
Ellis: Undrafted

Yes, 15 of the 23 players on the Sabres roster are picks from the 3rd round or worse. I think we got a pretty good deal with the two picks for Paille.

I feel like that conditional 4th round pick could be used to snag Connor Gorman if he drops...

I thought the forum scouts had put him at first round?

I think this is true, but, if Buf packages one or both of these picks to move into the second or first round it could very well turn out a player of higher caliber than Danny turned out to be. But then again, I liked the way Paille was playing in his games with Buf this year. Only time will tell.

We also have to keep in mind, he is in a contract year, so his value is less than what it would have been if he were locked up 2 or 3 more years at his current 1.1M cap hit as well.

Danny found his happy place, which just seems wrong because he'll forever look like he's around 9 years old.

Either way, I'm glad he's being played for now, and still wish him the best of luck.

some tidbits about the Paille trade in there.
and I think its soo awesome that the boys all watched the Boston game highlights and chanted for him when they saw him get the assist on the GWG. and that they had their own little Paille tribute. so cute.

That's cool, of course that won't be the case if Danny does that to us.
