While President Obama’s decision about sending more troops to Afghanistan is primarily a military one, it also has substantial budget implications that are adding pressure to limit the commitment, senior administration officials say.

The latest internal government estimates place the cost of adding 40,000 American troops and sharply expanding the Afghan security forces, as favored by Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top American and allied commander in Afghanistan, at $40 billion to $54 billion a year, the officials said.

So let's recap shall we?
- TARP (he voted for it) at $700 Billion is super cool because we need to save financial institutions from their own stupidity.
- Cash for clunkers at $4 billion was awesome because it gave us 1 quarter of positive growth so politicians can claim they ended the recession.
- The Federal stimulus weighing in just shy of $800 billion was absolutely necessary so it would appear the government cares about the economy while funneling borrowed money to their home districts.
- We need to overhaul the health care system to the tune of $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years and we need to do it quickly before opposition builds.

But when it comes to additional troops to fight against the taliban in Afghanistan, (remember, that's the "good" war we're fighting) something requested by the commanders on the ground, all of the sudden you want to keep spending in check????

Fuck you Mr. President.

I believe he said that troops would be pulled out of Iraq and more focus would be placed on Afghanistan. I'm totally liable to be wrong, though.

I talk with some of my men every month that are still in the military. They are telling me I need to put the uniform back on and get my ass in gear, they need more support. The former Exec for my platoon said they are coming under enemy fire just about every other day now. Sometimes a concentrated attack as well.
Our boys need help in Afghanistan and as soon as possible. Pulling out of Afghanistan is not an option, anyone that thinks otherwise is just lying to themselves. You cannot leave a breeding ground for the enemy. There is only 1 option here, push into Pakistan and finish the job. End of conversation.

Any other decision is only prolonging the enevitable. It needed to happen 7 years ago. It needs to happen now. There is only 1 thing I agreed with President Bush on. "Either your with us or your against us", "We will hunt you down across the globe, no matter where it is".

This is the mindset the American people, the free people of the world need to be in.
Make no mistake about this people, we are in a fight to death. Its either do or die. Do not allow yourselves, anyone of you, to be lulled into a false sense of security. The moment you give the enemy time to rest and regroup the more innocent people will die, its that simple.

I think that is correct. If I remember correctly now, That seems more likely then what I thought

And to be honest, we wont win in Afghanistan unless we start pulling out the heavy guns, cuz think about it, its prolly the same reason we didnt win in Vietnam and its basically the same thing, we go in, we fight, we dont fight hard enough, we dont get anywhere we pull out Communism (or in this case terrorism) wins.

In my own personal opinion they just need to start destroying Afghanistan, or else we wont win, innocent people will prolly be killed, but isnt that always the price of war?

McChrystal asked for 40,000 more. Obama does nothing. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/o ... der15.html

Troop morale in Afghanistan drops. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/1 ... 56787.html

I'm with you on this one Rut, and with XC.
A big FU Mr. President for not providing our Military with the personnel they need and have requested.

Yeah, way to get on that decision quickly, Mr. President.

Neither of the wars we are in are "winnable". Those that think we can win are delusional; there is no centralized enemy to defeat. We're fighting in those countries against the very nature of humanity.
