While President Obama’s decision about sending more troops to Afghanistan is primarily a military one, it also has substantial budget implications that are adding pressure to limit the commitment, senior administration officials say.
The latest internal government estimates place the cost of adding 40,000 American troops and sharply expanding the Afghan security forces, as favored by Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top American and allied commander in Afghanistan, at $40 billion to $54 billion a year, the officials said.
So let's recap shall we?
- TARP (he voted for it) at $700 Billion is super cool because we need to save financial institutions from their own stupidity.
- Cash for clunkers at $4 billion was awesome because it gave us 1 quarter of positive growth so politicians can claim they ended the recession.
- The Federal stimulus weighing in just shy of $800 billion was absolutely necessary so it would appear the government cares about the economy while funneling borrowed money to their home districts.
- We need to overhaul the health care system to the tune of $1.2 trillion over the next 10 years and we need to do it quickly before opposition builds.
But when it comes to additional troops to fight against the taliban in Afghanistan, (remember, that's the "good" war we're fighting) something requested by the commanders on the ground, all of the sudden you want to keep spending in check????
Fuck you Mr. President.
