I'm sure we can find examples throughout American government history that bare similarities to Orwellian prophecy. Our current distopia under President Obama is certainly no exception, and nothing fits the 1984 model better than what was exposed by Climategate. I realize many of you are already familiar with the 1984 narrative, but I've decided to break it down so that we can compare and contrast Orwell's Oceania with today's America. Of course, ETC is no Big Brother, so if you disagree with him about the similarities that's completely fine.

In Orwell's 1984, Oceania has four primary government ministries under Big Brother that incorporate deceptive names based on "doublespeak", i.e. have a name that is the opposite of the actual meaning or function.

Big Brother = President

1. Ministry of Peace
Purpose: Promoting peace through perpetual war
American equivalent(s): Defense Department, Department of Homeland Security

2. Ministry of Plenty
Purpose: Falsely reporting economic prosperity while perpetuating poverty
American Equivalent(s): Treasury Department, The Federal Reserve

3. Ministry of Truth
Purpose: Promoting party doctrine by revising history and changing facts.
American equivalent(s): White House Press Secretary, The National Archives and Records Administration

4. Ministry of Love
Purpose: To recondition or brainwash those found guilty of opposing party doctrine.
American Equivalent(s): CIA, FBI, Secret Service

Now, looking at these ministries and the American equivalents that I listed, do you see any similarities between today's America and 1984's Oceania? If so, please give some examples that back your opinion. All intelligent discussion, regardless of political identification is welcomed. Belligerence is not. Let's see if we can do better than we did in the religion thread, people!

Well, it is and it isn't. Kind of an incestuous relationship where they are a "non-profit" organization working closely with the Treasury that controls our banking industry and sets rates of interest. They are required to take all of the surplus revenue that they acquire and turn it over to the treasury. That amount is in the many tens of billions per year.
